Engineering as applied science

To accomplish this goal, the book focuses on the various aspects of environmental science and engineering as applied to the petroleum refining industry. Part I presents an introduction to, and a description of, the nomenclature used by refiners and by environmental scientists and engineers. This part includes a description of petroleum, petroleum refining, and petroleum products. Part II includes a discussion of the relevant environmental regulations in the United... [Pg.363]

MAX S. PETERS is currently Professor Emeritus of Chemical Engineering and Dean Emeritus of Engineering at the University of Colorado at Boulder. He received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in chemical engineering from the Pennsylvania State University, worked for the Hercules Power Company and the Treyz Chemical Company, and returned to Penn State for his Ph.D. Subsequently, he joined the faculty of the University of Illinois, and later came to the University of Colorado as Dean of the College of Engineering and Applied Science and Professor of Chemical Engineering. He relinquished the position of Dean in 1978 and became Emeritus in 1987. [Pg.919]

Ken Jordan received his Ph.D. in physical chemistry in 1974 under the direction of Bob Silbey at MIT. He then joined the Department of Engineering and Applied Science, Yale University, as a J.W. Gibbs Instructor, being promoted to Assistant Professor in 1976. In 1978 Professor Jordan moved to the Chemistry Department at the University of Pittsburgh where he is now Professor and Director of the Center for Molecular and Materials Simulations. His interest in the application of computers to chemical problems stems from his graduate student days. Professor Jordan s recent research has focused on the properties of hydrogen-bonded clusters, modeling chemical reactions on surfaces, electron-induced chemistry and the development of new methods for Monte Carlo simulations. [Pg.1241]

Perhaps this could be a specification of Otto Mayr s project as outlined in The science-technology relationship as a historiographic problem, Technology and Culture, 17 (1976), 663-673. For a recent followup to his suggestions see Ronald Kline, Construing technology as applied science Public rhetoric of scientists and engineers in the United States, 1880-1945, Isis, 86 (1995), 194-221. [Pg.168]

Dr. Jennifer H. Shin is an associate professor in Mechanical Engineering Department at Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST). She obtained B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in the field of biophysics in Mechanical Engineering Department at MIT in 1998, 2000, and 2004, respectively. After that, she worked as a postdoctoral associate in School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS) at Harvard University before she started her career at KAIST in 2005. Dr. Shin s research interests center around the emerging... [Pg.523]

Space Engineering Science of engineering as applied to off-Earth environments. By their nature, these environments have different physical prop>-erties and therefore require knowledge specifically related to space science and physics. [Pg.1699]
