Employer, definition

Note that the employed definition of a system contains an important asymmetry between the system and the external world. The system s description includes the influence of the external forces on the system, but not the reverse, the influence of the system on the outside world. From a mathematical viewpoint the equations that describe the system s behavior contain the external forces, but the latter have to be taken from information outside the model. As will been shown, the specific hierarchy between system and outside world can often (but not always) be justified based on the respective strength of the interactions. Take the system of the earth. Solar radiation is a very strong driving force for the earth, but the back-radiation from the earth to the sun is so tiny that nobody would want to include it as a feedback mechanism in a radiation model of the sun. [Pg.952]

As stated above the Surveyor s role will include an assessment of the yard s quality control department including the suppliers of any contracted NDE services. The Surveyor will look for the employment of qualified personnel, the availability of adequate inspection procedures and the presentation of definitive NDE reports. [Pg.1044]

A liquid may be transferred from one vessel to another with a dropper pipette (Fig. XII, 1, 2, a or b). If the dropper pipette is calibrated, it may be employed for measuring out a definite volume of liquid. [Pg.1102]

The Least Squares or Best-fit Line. The simplest type of approximating curve is a straight line, the equation of which can be written as in form number 1 above. It is customary to employ the above definition when X is the independent variable and Y is the dependent variable. [Pg.207]

Quantity can vary according to sampling and definition employed. [Pg.29]

In 1994, there were approximately six to seven dozen companies producing shicon in about 30 different Western countries, together employing several hundred furnaces. Nameplate Western world ferrosihcon capacity was estimated at 1,830,000 t of contained shicon. The effective capacity in 1994 was estimated at 1,450,000 t of contained shicon. There has been a definite shift in ferrosihcon capacity and trends for new plants and expansions are outside of the traditional supply areas. Since 1992, new capacity has been added in South Africa, Venezuela, Iran, and Bhutan. Additional plants near completion in Iran and Saudi Arabia are scheduled to start in 1996. The Western world ferrosihcon supply is expected to increase by about 150,000 t/yr of contained shicon by the year 2000 (27). [Pg.540]

Naplitali-Sandholm SC Method This method employs the equilibrium-stage model of Figs. 13-48 and 13-49 but reduces the number of vari les by 2N so that only N(2C + 1) equations in a hke number of unknowns must be solved. In place of Vj, Lj, Xij, and iji j, component flow rates are used according to their definitions ... [Pg.1286]

Assistance in problem definition and in developing a test program should be sought from persons experienced in the field. If your organization has a consultant in separations of this land, by all means m e use of the expertise available. If not, it may be wise to employ an outside consultant, whose special knowledge and guidance can save time, money, and headaches. It is important to do this early after the separation equipment has been installed, there is httle a consultant can do to remedy the sometimes disastrous effects of a poor selection. Often it is best to work with established equipment manufacturers throughout the selection process, unless the problem is unusually sensitive or confidential. Their experience with problems similar to yours may be most helpful and avoid many false starts. [Pg.1749]

Capacity Definitions In any analysis, the capacity per unit time of dynamic equipment (such as conveyors and bagging machines), as well as the rates at which they ac tuaUy perform, must be defined more precisely and realistically than by a mere statement of kilograms or pounds per hour. Some useful definitions employed by the equipment industi y are the following ... [Pg.1911]

Using a differential cost function such as that of Fiber and Karplus, the potential energy is averaged over the path by including a factor of 1/L. In other definitions, such as the one employed in the MaxFlux method, there is no such nonnalization. Therefore, if the potential is set to zero, the MaxFlux method will find that the best path is the straight line path connecting reactants and products. However, methods where the differential cost is proportional to 1 /L will find that all paths are equally good. [Pg.215]

Static system The batch-wise employment of ion-exchange resins, wherein (since ion exchange is an equilibrium reaction) a definite endpoint is reached in which a finite quantity of all the ions involved is present. Opposed to a dynamic, column-type operation. [Pg.439]

Retrosynthetic analysis of antheridic acid produced a totally different plan of synthesis from that which had been employed for the structurally related target gibberellic acid. The synthesis of antheridic acid, which included a number of novel steps, allowed definitive assignment of structure and revised stereochemistry at C(3). [Pg.212]
