Emergency Exercises

Healthcare facilities must test their emergency plan twice annually in response to an actual event of planned exercise. If the facility offers emergency services or participates as a community emergency receiving station, one of the two drills must be an exercise with the influx of patients or simulated patients. [Pg.138]

The exercise should evaluate performance if the facility can t get support from community resources. Evaluate all exercises to determine performance and opportunities for improvement. Ensure that the six critical areas listed later are properly monitored. Use a multidisciplinary evaluation process that includes administration, clinical professionals, and support personnel. Communicate strengths and weaknesses to the improvement team. Consider every worker, visitor, or patient as someone needing training, education, or helpful information. Focus on execution, training deficiencies, and problem areas. [Pg.139]

The effectiveness of any site incident response plan will depend on staff training. All staff and contractors working on site need to be made aware of the plan. Emergency exercises should be carried out periodically... [Pg.317]

An emergency plan including detailed procedures should be developed to cover all foreseeable aspects of emergencies at a research reactor facility. This plan should specify the set of infrastructural elements necessary to provide the capability to respond to an emergency. This plan and procedures should be tested, reviewed and updated as necessary. The conclusions of periodic emergency exercises should be considered in the updating process. [Pg.78]
