Emanation analysis

Among the methods for radioactivity measurements several others should be at least mentioned. The ecotoxicollogically important radon ( Rn), thoron ( Rn) and acti-non ( Rn) and their direct parents (e.g. Ra) can be reliably determined by emanation analysis (Toelgyessy and Kyrs, 1989). It demands the quantitative removal of the inert gas from the sample before its activity is measured. The method is easily applicable for waters but solids have to be melted either directly or by fusion. 

A few other thermal techniques such as thermomechanical analysis, dilatometry, emanation analysis, etc., are only used to a limited extent in concrete investigations. Several publications have appeared whieh exclusively deal with the application of thermal analysis to the investigation of cementitious systems. ...

Until recently, previous studies for continuous monitoring of hepatic function with ICG utilized the absorption mode. However, new studies demonstrate that the highly sensitive fluorescence technique can equally be used [148-150]. In addition to high sensitivity, in-depth analysis of the emission, excitation and polarization properties of fluorescence spectroscopy furnishes additional functional information about the dye molecule. In this system, the fluorescence profile emanating from the clearance of injected biocompatible dye is monitored with a small photodetector. Fig. 8 shows the in vivo fluorescence detection apparatus developed for continuous monitoring of organ functions [147,148]. 

One of the most interesting aspects of APCI is its ability to directly sample streams of ambient air into which odor releasing samples can be placed without difficult, time consuming or adulterating pretreatment steps. This capability opens up vistas of analytical research which could never before be easily explored. One such area which shows direct applicability to the perfume industry, was the analysis of chemicals emanating from the skin.
