In Fig. 12.8-2a an enclosed moving-bed bucket elevator device is shown. This is called the Bollman extractor. Dry flakes or solids are added at the upper right side to a perforated basket or bucket. As the buckets on the right side descend, they are leached by a dilute solution of oil in solvent called half miscella. This liquid percolates downward through the moving buckets and is collected at the bottom as the strong solution or full miscella. The buckets moving upward on the left are leached countercurrently by fresh solvent sprayed on the top bucket. The wet flakes are dumped as shown and removed continuously. [Pg.728]

Sodium terbium borate is used in solid-state devices. The oxide has potential application as an activator for green phosphors used in color TV tubes. It can be used with Zr02 as a crystal stabilizer of fuel cells which operate at elevated temperature. Few other uses have been found. [Pg.189]

For the manufacture of silicon semiconductor devices, oxide thicknesses of from <10 to >1000 nm are required on sHces of single-crystal silicon. These oxide layers are formed at elevated temperatures, generally at about 1000°C, in an atmosphere of either oxygen or steam. Usually the oxidation is at atmospheric pressure, but sometimes, to speed the oxidation rate, pressures of several atmospheres are used. The fluid dehvery in an air-spray system can be pressure or suction fed. In a pressure-fed system, the fluid is brought to the atomizer under positive pressure generated with an external pump, a gas pressure over the coating material in a tank, or an elevation head. In a suction system, the annular flow of air around the fluid tip generates sufficient vacuum to aspirate the coating material from a container through a fluid tube and into the air stream.
