Elevated storage reservoirs

Elevated storage reservoir shall be located centrally/near to as many process units as possible which need water always. The bottom outlet valve shall be operated by a solenoid control, and it shall open when power fails. It shall supply water to emergency use points such scmbbers, cooling jackets, electrode cooling, etc.

The volume of elevated storage reservoir (ESR) can be calculated from these figures, and the cost of tank plus support structure, water piping for filling and pump cost can be estimated. A convenient location for the tank in the premises should be decided. It should be as near as the important user points as possible. 

For oil systems, commonly referred to as hot oil systems, a reservoir is sometimes provided in an elevated storage tank. The fire risks associated with hot oil systems comprise the temperature of the circulating oil, location of transfer pumps, and protection of the storage reservoir.
