Eleusis

After Strike wrote the first edition and started up the old web site, a lot of new theories came in. The most promising was a proposition from our founding father of cyber chemistry Eleusis. This was his proposal ... [Pg.35]

This procedure, Strike believes, was not tried by Eleusis. But his theory on the use of partial solubility is very old and founded. Taken, as we all are, by Eleusis unique genius, our beloved Bee TDK contracted a Philippine research laboratory to apply this proposal. Here is what they said ... [Pg.37]

METHOD 3 This is not really a method. It is more of an idea Strike and others have been toying with. Eleusis had been supporting the idea that one could make use of the common 48% aq HBr if one employed the technique of dehydration . We remember that the water was competing with the Br in the normal 48% solution. But the literature demonstrates that in conditions such as this, a competing acid can strip away the water (dehydrate) from the beta carbon allowing the Br a second chance to pop in. [Pg.148]

Fester [18] has made this modification to his recipe by promoting the idea that bubbling HCI gas into the safrole/48% aq HBr reaction mix one can affect dehydration allowing dominant bromination to occur. Strike does not know if that actually works. Could be. But what Strike and Eleusis draw on are the examples given by Vogel [37 p277]. [Pg.148]

There is no way this section would be complete without Eleusis classic Methylamine FAQ . It was Strike s first-ever introduction to this person s work and it is still Strike s favorite ... [Pg.259]

Evidence marshalled for this thesis by Wasson, Hofmann and the Greek scholar Carl A.P. Ruck, along with a new translation of the "Homeric Hymn to Demeter, appears in their The Road to Eleusis Unveiling the Secret of... [Pg.185]

The Road to Eleusis appeared in 1978 so far as I know, nobody since then has tried an aqueous solution of ergot, which is understandable, given the history of ergotism. On the other hand, Paspalum distichum, as described by Hofmann, contains "only alkaloids that are hallucinogenic and which could even have been used direcdy in powder form. ... [Pg.188]

The minor Mysteries were held every year at Agrai There were the preparations for the great Mysteries, and they were held every 5 years in the Autumn at Eleusis Any disclosure about the Mysteries was punishable by death New members were called Neophytes. [Pg.87]

Only the Mystics were allowed to partake in the great Mysteries those who had already received the minor initiation The great mysteries took place every 5 years, at the time of the harvest in the month Boedromion (September) in Eleusis for the duration of 9 days. [Pg.89]

At the onset of darkness, the Mystics were received in the Temple of Eleusis by the Holy Herold, with the call "Escato bebeloi " - "Begone from here, all unconsecrated and ungodly, whose Souls are covered with crimes ," and drove thusly all of the trespassers out Unauthorized intrusion to these secret celebrations were punishable by death. [Pg.90]

The holy initiation was now concluded, and the mystics had become seers, epopts, true initiates A happiness never before known to them, and an inexpressible peace filled their hearts They had overcome the fear of death, the dark puzzle of life was solved, the "Great Light" of Eleusis had arisen in them. [Pg.93]

It was one of the darkest hours of mankind, when the zeolitic Emperor, Theodisuis the Great, upon the instigation of the Catholic Church closed the Temple in Eleusis in the year 385 Before that, he had the Alexandrian Library burned, by orders of the same... [Pg.93]

As further work by Wasson and Hofmann was later to show, there is a strong probability that an LSD-type psychedelic preparation was also, over a period of two millennia, an important and integral part of religious and intellectual life in an area of the world much closer to our western civilization, ancient Greece. See The Road to Eleusis, unveiling the Secret of the Mysteries, by Wasson, Ruck, and Hofmann, Harcourt Brace lovanovich, 1978. (back)... [Pg.29]

Wasson et al. (1978) argued that the Greek Eleusinian mysteries involved the use of an aqueous concoction of ergot sclerotia that contained water-soluble alkaloids, perhaps including lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD). These mystical ceremonies were held in ancient Greece at Eleusis, near Athens. The mysteries... [Pg.19]
