Elemental force

The next step in the numerical implementation is to find a relation between each individual element stiffness matrix, element displacement vector and element force vector and the global system. Hence, we must generate a global stiffness matrix, global displacement vector and global force vector. This step in the implementation is actually only data management or book keeping. [Pg.458]

Derive the equations that result in the constant strain triangle element force vector that represents the internal heat generation term Q given in eqn. (9.72). [Pg.507]

The influence of this pressure distribution on the displacements in a neighboring area on the same boundary surface can be analyzed as shown in Fig. 2.8. Let M be an arbitrary point outside the circular area (Fig. 2.8(a)) or inside the circular area (Fig. 2.8(b)) with a distance r from the center of the circular area. A small element within the loaded zone is chosen as s d/5 ds, where s is the distance between this element and M. From the solution of lz for a point force on a semiinfinite solid, the increment of the vertical displacement at location M under the influence of this element force would be... [Pg.58]

If one represented - as it was once usual - as a function of the velocity v, one would obtain not a curve, but a galaxy. Here, the Reynold s law must strike even a beginner with an elemental force . [Pg.20]

The calculation of vibration spectra in terms of force constants is similar to the calculation of energy bands in terms of interatomic matrix elements. Force constants based upon elasticity lead to optical modes, as well as acoustical modes, in reasonable accord with experiment, the principal error being in transverse acoustical modes. The depression of these frequencies can be understood in terms of long-range electronic forces, which were omitted in calculations tising the valence force field. The calculation of specific heat in terms of the vibration spectrum can be greatly simplified by making a natural Einstein approximation. [Pg.203]

For each of the ionomer systems studies as well as for cations in zeolites, the cation-motion bands are easy to identify, because they vary in frequency approximately as M"1, where M is the mass of the cation. However, M-i 1 clearly is not the correct complete reduced mass for the vibration, since that would require the site to be of infinite mass. A better approximation to the proper reduced mass, p, can be obtained by considering at least the atoms immediately surrounding the cation. Typically, p is calculated from models in which the cation has either an octahedral surrounding (for the T mode) or a tetrahedral surrounding (for the T2 mode). With it and the band frequency, the force field element, (force constant), for the vibration can be calculated. [Pg.60]

The boy understood intuitively what he meant, even without ever having set foot in the desert before. Whenever he saw the sea, or a fire, he fell silent, impressed by their elemental force. [Pg.37]

To illustrate the application of the generalized Newtonian fluid relation, we consider the steady fully developed flow of a non-Newtonian fluid in a circular pipe (Fig. 9.1.2). From an elemental force balance on a cylindrical fluid element of radius r and length Ax, we have on equating the pressure force to the shear force... [Pg.262]

The components with the highest impact on the investigated LPHP non-reliability are turbine -switching elements - forced pipe - power transformer - driving manager. [Pg.817]

In addition to the functional form of a force field, one needs the corresponding set of force field parameters. In the parlance of force fields, the term atom is defined in a somewhat more narrow way than in quantum mechanics. In quantum mechanical calculations, it is sufficient to specify the element for an atom, and the parameters (basis set) will be usually the same for all atoms of the same element. Force fields require the specification of additional properties for an atom, such as its connectivity, hybridization, and oxidation state. The... [Pg.160]

Spread-plasticity models are classical finite elements where material nonlinearities are modeled at each integration point. Besides the classical two-node displacement-based beam elements, force-based two-node force-based elements have seen a widespread use both in research and commercial software (McKenna, 1997 MIDAS, 2006 Zimmermann, 1985-2007). The assumed force fields in a two-mode force-based element are exact within classical beam theories, such as the Euler-Bernoulli and Timoshenko theories (Marini Spacone, 2006 Spacone et al, 1996). This implies that only one element per structural member is used. The element implementation is not trivial and it implies element iterations, but these steps are transparent to the user. The section constitutive law is the source of material nonlinearities. [Pg.330]

Our matrix elements (force constants) in the F matrix will be first the stretching constants for bond 1-2, for bond 1-3, and for bond 1, which we will represent as ksu, ks23, and 534. The bending constants for the molecnle will be represented by 9123 and 9234, and the torsion constant is represented by 0,1234. The numerical values for constants such as these are normally determined experimentally by vibrational spectroscopy, as the values of these constants are primary determinants of the vibrational frequencies of the molecule. [Pg.58]

The summation of the elemental forces on the bolting steel in tension can be represented by tensile force Ft located at the center of tension and distance h from the neutral axis. Similarly the summation of the compressive forces on the concrete in compression can be represented by a compressive force Fe located at distance Ij from the neutral axis. -... [Pg.187]

Between this tubing and the casing is placed a packer . The packer and its sealing element forces reservoir fluid to run up the tubing rather than up the annulus between the tubing and casing. It is not desirable to produce from the well via the casing. [Pg.161]

A new synthesis of the antineoplastic compound, podophyllotoxin (57), has been reported. It scores over previous approaches in that the problem of epimerization of the C-2 carboxyl group is avoided by the use of the acetonide protecting group in the key intermediate (56). This controlling element forces (56) into a conformation with axial phenyl and equatorial ester, thus removing the usual driving force for epimerization at C-2. [Pg.379]

The rest length has been included in eqSo 10-12 so as to define the elemental force components relative to reduced element length t. The directions of the elemental force vectors are shown in Figure 2. [Pg.61]

The stress tensor, eq. 18, has been derived on the basis of an equilibrium between the macroscopic tractions acting on a plane and the elemental forces crossing the plane however, no such procedure exists for obtaining the macroscopic extensions. Thus, the validity of eq. [Pg.65]

The elemental forces corresponding to the potential given by eq. 23 are obtained from eqs. 10-12. [Pg.66]
