In conclusion, wc have shown the interesting information which one can get from electrical resistivity measurements on SWCNT and MWCNT and the exciting applications which can be derived. MWCNTs behave as an ultimate carbon fibre revealing specific 2D quantum transport features at low temperatures weak localisation and universal conductance fluctuations. SWCNTs behave as pure quantum wires which, if limited in length, reduce to quantum dots. Thus, each type of CNT has its own features which are strongly dependent on the dimensionality of the electronic gas. We have also briefly discussed the very recent experimental results obtained on the thermopower of SWCNT bundles and the effect of intercalation on the electrical resistivity of these systems. [Pg.125]

In active or rigor muscle, heads that do not overlap actin filaments become disordered (Cantino et al, 2002 Padron and Craig, 1989). They therefore contribute little to the observed low-angle X-ray diffraction patterns. This population increases with increasing sarcomere length (reduced filament overlap). [Pg.230]

A second possibility was that the increasing viscosity of the solution and/or increasing molecular chain length reduced the reaction rate by lowering the diffusion of reactants. However, if this were happening, it would reduce the rate at high conversions rather than at the beginning of the polymerization when only monomers and very short chains are present. [Pg.716]

Miniaturization of semiconductor devices has been a continuous trend in the microelectronics industry. The decrease in minimum feature length reduces the overall device size, increases the packing density, and thus reduces the cost of... [Pg.9]

In the reference test, the low reactor exit temperature at the constant plant-energy input conditions indicates the expected higher heat losses in a short-duration reactor. The corresponding lower overall temperature profile through the test-reactor length reduces the process kinetic time-at-temperature. The associated gas-phase chemical kinetics at the lower residence times are believed to be responsible for the slight discrepancies in the reference test gas yields. Also, the "true enthalpy used for cracking is lower than that indicated by the measured reactor temperature. [Pg.131]

Figure 2 Viscosity as a function of chain length, reduced with entanglement degree of chain length The points correspond to the theory allowing for fluctuations in the entangled path length of chains showing without adjustable parameters an effective exponent of 3.4. The line with a slope of 3.0 corresponds to classical reptation theory. Inset Plotted as tjN versus NINg, crossover occurs at around NINe 200, as in experiment d... HNS of the pteridine residue makes a hydrogen bond contact with the carbonyl oxygen of De5 (in structure 1). This hydrogen bond length reduces to 1.61 A in structure 3, and increases to 1.98 A in structure 5, and then reduces to 1.67 A in structure 6. In structures 5 and 6, pteridine makes a van der Waals contact with Ala7. It is worthwhile to note that structure 5 shows two van der Waals, contacts which are not seen in any of the earlier three structures. These are the contacts with residues Phe31 and Thr46. [Pg.269]

Acylation of the 14-hydroxyl group of 14-hydroxycodeinone gave esters (5) (Fig. 1) in which antinociceptive potency increased with the length of the alkyl chain in the acyl group (5a) peaking in the heptanoyloxy derivative (5a, n — S) which had 60 times the potency of morphine [2], a level of potency that was matched by the cinnamoyloxy derivative (5b) [3] further increases in the chain length reduced potency [2],... [Pg.95]

The function len is defined by len k ) = length make small(k )), as explained above, and the polynomial-time algorithm that computes it in unary is the composition of those for length and make small. The value that denotes from where on the hash functions are length-reducing is ki . [Pg.269]

As previously discussed, the two main sources of noise emitted from industrial flares is combustion roar and gas jet noise. Inhibiting the rate at which the air and fuel streams mix can reduce the level of combustion roar however, this noise abatement technique generally tends to reduce the smokeless performance, increase thermal radiation, and flame length. Reducing the mixing rate of the air and fuel stream in order to lower combustion roar levels usually cannot justify the accompanying sacrifices in the performance of a flare. [Pg.202]
