Polycarbonate (PC) has excellent mechanical strength, particularly impact strength, good electrical properties and transparency, and is widely utilised in a variety of fields including office machinery, electric and electronic machinery, automobiles, architecture and so on. Many applications require that a PC composition be flame retardant(s) (FR) and combine ease of processing with good optical properties. Table 2.7 illustrates some of the physical properties of PC. 

Parts cleaning and stripping are integral process operations for industries that repair, maintain, or manufacture parts and equipment. Manufacturing groups generating metal wastes include metal furniture manufacturers, metal fabricators, machinery manufacturers, electric and electronic equipment manufacturers, instrument manufacturers, and many others.

The Italian story differs in that C. Olivetti, it s leading computer manufacturer and one of Europe s major producer of typewriters and electrical and electronic-based office machinery, failed to produce a competitive information technologies (IT) product. The development of electric power for energy generation and transportation has largely contributed to the widespread use of copper. For other purposes, such as industrial machinery and consumer products, unrefined metal with 99.8% copper can be used. Its electrical conductivity is somewhat reduced.

This is the closest to being the sector-specific standard to lEC 61508 and is intended to provide functional safety guidance for the design of safety-related electrical and electronic control systems for machinery and covers the whole life-cycle as covered in lEC 61508.
