Education schools, working with

Dennis Paui has been an educator for over twenty years. He taught for eleven years in a one-room school, working with students in grades K-8. He also has served as a special education teacher in a school for homeless students, and as a teacher for acute care adolescent hospital programs. [Pg.3]

By the time I was in the fifth grade my mom was educated and my doctor helped her to realize I couldn t go to school in that building. She pulled me out of school and got a tutor to work with me at home. That was a pretty hard time for me. I didn t want to be pulled out of school nobody does at that age. One of Orton s students was Alice Emily Smith. Smith was born on 18 June 1871, daughter of Thomas Smith, Commission Agent of Warrenpoint, County Down, Northern Ireland and she was educated at Crescent House School, Bedford.109 She entered University College of North Wales, Bangor, in 1897 and completed a B.Sc. (London) in chemistry in 1901. Smith was awarded an 1851 Scholarship, which she chose to use from 1901 to 1903 at Owens College, Manchester, where she worked with William Perkin, Jr.,110 her research resulting in four substantial papers. [Pg.298]

At a much earlier age, there was another important person for my development. This was my primary school teacher Pierre Charlier. He was one of those typical products of the French Third Republic ideal of democratic education. He was a Republican teacher, a very dedicated teacher, and wanted to motivate the young children. I remember that he worked with us overtime, many times, to bring us from the primary school to high school. I owe him a lot. [Pg.205]

John Pople was bom in Bumham-on-Sea, Somerset in 1925, the son of a men s clothing storeowner. His parents considered education important and sent him to Bristol Grammar School. Here he developed an interest in mathematics and in 1943 went to Trinity College, Cambridge to read mathematics. As it was wartime he had to finish his degree in two years and in 1945 went to work for the Bristol Aeroplane Company. In 1947 he returned to Cambridge as a maths student but developed an interest in theoretical science. He went on to work with Sir John Lennard-Jones after whom one of the interatomic potentials used in calculations is named. At about the same time Pople decided to learn to play the piano and went on to marry his piano teacher, Joy Bowers. [Pg.21]
