Edge Banding Machines

Hot-melt adhesives are applied on edge-banding machines, profile-wrapping machines, and postforming machines. The adhesive is applied to the substrates with special rollers or slot nozzles. The joint between the cover and the core material is achieved by applying pressure with a roller system while the adhesive sets. [Pg.59]

Schnitt, m. cut cutting, incision section intersection slice die edge (of a book) (surgical) operation crop, -band, n. (Micros.) serial section, ribbon, schnlttbearbeltbar, a. machinable. Schnitt-brenner, m. slit burner, batswing burner, -dicke, /, thickness of a slice or section. [Pg.394]

Lumber banding consists of gluing lumber strips, 1/2 to 2 inches in width, on the particleboard edges. These strips are normally used in applications where the particleboard is to be covered with wood veneers. The solid wood strip can be machined to decorative edges and, with the veneer surfaces, the panel is fully as functional and attractive as a solid wood panel, but at a lower cost. The lumber bands are normally bonded to the particleboard with polyvinyl acetate or urea-formaldehyde adhesives, cured rapidly by either contact or high frequency heating. [Pg.238]

Quarter-wave interference films have seen numerous uses in the field of optical security, due to the strength of reflection and the ability to select numerous colors, and in particular for their observable color shift. Decorative nanolayer quarter-wave polymeric material with more than 100 layers have been known for twenty years, but was not used in the security sector because of their weak iridescent appearance. The 3 M Corporation uses PEN to manufacture reflectors with good band-edge control which are extremely efficient broadband mirrors for communication. These devices are easily noticed by the typical observer and are machine-readable. The PEN quarter-wave mirror films may be fine-line embossed and thinly layered which enliances their appearance [76]. [Pg.356]

Banding. The application, by hand or by machine, of a band of colour to the edge of a plate or cup. [Pg.20]
