EC-funded

This second volume of this book, Global Risk-Based Management of Chemical Additives, presents the results obtained after 3 years of research conducted during the EC funded RISKCYCLE project (Risk-based management of chemicals and products in a circular economy at a global scale). 

The EC funded the present work within the European project OPTICOMB, NNE5-2001-000639. The authors thank TU-Graz for their valuable contribution. 

Although Greece has no specific national plan on hydrogen and fuel cells, the topics have recently been included in the Creek national research agenda of the Operational Plan of Competitiveness published by the General Secretariat of Research and Technology of the Ministry of Development. Past research activities in Greece on these two topics have been funded primarily by EC funds.

The EC funded project CAESAR is developing models for five endpoints specifically related to the REACH legislation [28]. The five endpoints are bioconcentration factor, skin sensitization, carcinogenicity, reproductive toxicity, and mutagenicity (in vivo studies). These five endpoints have been chosen because they are among those that will require more animal tests. Actually, other studies are also supposed to use many animals, but they were excluded because of lack of sufficient experimental values. 

The EC funded project CHEMOMENTUM will also implement QSAR models for pesticides and industrial chemicals, taken from the DEMETRA and CAESAR projects, and presented in a more user-friendly form [29].

The integration of wind and hydrogen technologies at an industrial scale was the aim of the RES2H2 EC-funded project (contract ENK5-CT-2001-00536, duration 2002-2007). The project involved the realisation of two test sites, one in the Canary islands, Spain and another in Attica, Greece. 

This work is part of an EC funded study (1) of the best techniques for extracting saleable components from Thymus zygis, a herb which will survive in arid conditions where other plants are difficult to grow. This is a collaborative study involving participants from Portugal and France as well as England (2).
