Fume cupboards, slot captor or receptor hood ventilation. These must be driven by a suitable and adequate fan, and will often need water wash, dust filtration or precipitators built in. United States cotton mills have attained some degree of alleviation of the bysslnosls problem in recent years (Imbus, 1984). Many cotton mills have improved the effectiveness of dust filtration from the air and some have instituted periodic pulmonary function testing of employees, with referral of persons exhibiting low pulmonary function results to private physicians for special medical attention. However, much more remains to be done before the problem can be considered to be solved (Imbus, 1984). 

Electrostatic precipitators also come into this last category because of their capacity for ultra-fine dust filtration, although they can operate with much higher air velocities.
