Dust, domestic

In environmental analysis, tree components, road sediments and dust, domestic waste and calcareous biological structures have been investigated to obtain information about changes in ecosystems. [Pg.249]

The danger to domestic animals, including pets, is an important hazard in the use of all newer economic poisons. Drift dusts or sprays from carelessly applied materials may set back the useful development of many valuable chemicals. Only recently have authorities finally decided that we should slow down on the use of DDT on cows until we know more about the occurrence of the chemical in rtiilk, butter, and steaks. Our sportsmen and, incidentally, a major economic factor in our pleasant way of life—the fish, game, and wildlife activities—are part and parcel of the problem of chemical usage in forests and streams. We need continued and expanded investigations of the effects of the newer pesticides on wild life. [Pg.15]

For the most part, the zinc materials recovered from secondary materials such as slab zinc, alloys, dusts, and compounds are comparable in quality to primary products. Zinc in brass is the principal form of secondary recovery, although secondary slab zinc has risen substantially over the last few years because it has been the principal zinc product of electric arc furnace (EAF) dust recycling. Impure zinc oxide products and zinc-bearing slags are sometimes used as trace element additives in fertilizers and animal feeds. About 10% of the domestic requirement for zinc is satisfied by old scrap. [Pg.94]

The contradictory results may be due to different contamination levels. With a high indoor contamination it might be easier to detect an association, whereas with low indoor contamination levels associations may be hidden by the ubiquitous presence of the biocide and dietary intake. Taking DDT as an example, that formed much higher residues in house dust 30 years ago, it was stated in 1975 that the contamination of house dust by the domestic use of DDT was primarily responsible for human serum residues (Davies, Edmundson and Raffonelli, 1975). [Pg.262]

The disastrous events of the Dust Bowl led to the Soil Erosion Service Act of 1935. On April 27 of that year, the United States Congress declared soil erosion a national menace in an act directing the USDA to establish a Soil Conservation Service (Wehrwein, 1938). Also in 1935, the Soil Erosion Service was transferred from the United States Department of the Interior to the USDA with Hugh Hammond Bennett as its head (Morgan, 1965). This was soon followed by the Soil Conservation and Domestic Allotment Act of 1936. The State Soil Conservation Districts model law of 1937 was designed to customize soil conservation measures to reflect more local needs, placing more public focus on agricultural production methods. [Pg.543]

It also is used for the control of internal parasites affecting domestic animals and livestock. Trichlorfon is available in dust, emulsifiable concentrate, granular, fly bait, and soluble powder formulations with the percentage active of ingredient ranging from 40% (soluble powder) to 98% (technical). Trichlorfon is a selective insecticide, meaning that it kills selected insects.28... [Pg.150]
