Duration item

One of the most significant laser safety standards is that developed by the Z-136 committee of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) (55). Although it is voluntary, many organi2ations use the ANSI standard. It contains a number of items including a recommendation for maximum permissible levels of exposure to laser radiation for various wavelengths, exposure durations, and different parts of the body separation of lasers into four different classes according to the level of ha2ard they present and recommendation of safety practices for lasers in each of the classes. 

From this information it is possible to prepare bar charts by using a 4-week month and noting on the chart the interdependence of the various functions. The starting time for each class of work is fixed on the chart, and the duration is calciilated from the labor-hours allocated to that work from the control estimate. Work should progress smoothly as time elapses, but the operations must be linked by the order of necessaiy precedence. Starting times for the various items of work will be staggered as drawings are released and also to smooth out labor requirements. 

A thorough inspeetion of equipment, whieh may inelude frisking or a wipe test, helps determine the duration of and methodology seleeted for deeontamination. All equipment parts should be eonsidered highly eontaminated, removed, and replaeed before the equipment leaves the worksite. Porous items (i.e., wooden truek beds, eloth hoses, wooden handles) usually eannot be thoroughly eleaned and should be disearded (as hazardous waste if neeessary). 

System life The duration of the life cycle of an item of equipment or a complete system. 

Customer supplied products that are issued for incorporation into supplies don t often require maintenance however, items for use in conjunction with the contract may be retained for such a duration that maintenance is necessary. If the products require any maintenance you should be provided with a maintenance specification and the appropriate equipment to do the job. Maintenance may include both preventive and corrective maintenance but you should clarify with your customer which it is. You may have the means for preventive maintenance, such as lubrication and calibration, but not for repairs. Always establish your obligations in the contract regarding customer supplied product, because you could take on commitments for which you are not contractually covered if something should go wrong. You need to establish who will supply the spares and re-certify the equipment following repair. 

Item 7 Describe ihe suspected adverse event. Such things as temperature, local and general signs and symptoms, time course, duration of symptoms diagnosis, treatment and recovery should be noted. 

The search warrant must describe with particularity what is to be seized, when it is to be seized and location, so nothing is left to the discretion of the officer executing the warrant. This requirement limits the scope and duration of the search. Warrants are routinely issued for contraband, fruits and instrumentahties of crimes and evidentiary items such as, DNA, blood and urine samples, fingernail and skin scrapings, voice and handwriting exemplars, computer data, and electronic media. Information gained from valid warrantless searches may be used to obtain other warrants. 

However, combining different phases of the reproductive cycle into a single study design increases the risk of an adverse event compromising the evaluation of subsequent stages, e.g., any impact on fertility of the male or female could result in too few litters for the embryo-fetal development evaluation. Under such circumstances, a separate embryo-fetal development study would have to be scheduled with the associated added cost and use of animals. Further, a separate embryo-fetal development study is recommended if the test item is poorly tolerated with repeated dosing in order to limit the duration of the administration period. 

Microcosms and mesocosms can also directly be used to derive AA-EQSs if the test substance concentration was relatively constant over time (due to stability of the test item or due to experimental manipulation) and the study duration was long enough to detect possible long-term effects (usually at least 8 weeks, but this will depend on the life cycle of sensitive taxa). Maternal treatment is either discontinued at term or is continued into the lactation period in order to investigate transfer of test item to the infant. Transfer of biopharmaceuticals via milk has been observed in this species. The duration of the postnatal observation period is variable and not yet standardized. In our laboratory the longest postnatal observation period covered 720 days. A variety of parameters is available for testing infant development (see also Table 18.4 for details). For biopharmaceuticals, a minimum period of 6 months appears appropriate. If the behavioral test battery comprises learning tests that are recommended from the age of 6 months onward, infants should be observed for at least 9 months.

The complexity of many industrial bioseparation equipment items means that the design and construction can be time consuming, particularly if process development is required to test the equipment on a typical product to see if it will work at the larger scale. It is not unusual to have 6 to 9 month delivery periods for this type of equipment, and even when delivered, it will be necessary to install, commission, and validate it. Therefore, the project program must recognize the long duration for introducing commercial bioseparation equipment. 

For both CPM and PERT, the overall project is viewed as a series of activities or operations performed in an optimum sequence to reach a desired objective. Each activity is considered as having a beginning and an end so that the overall project consists of a series of these events. The general technique, then, is to develop a mathematical model to give the best program or interrelated series of events to achieve a desired goal. The major difference in concept between CPM and PERT is that involved in estimating the time duration of activities. Thus, CPM may be relatively specific on time items, while PERT includes measures of the uncertainties involved. 

The total duration far exceeds the 18 months dictated by the marketing requirements. In this particular case study, the picture is complicated by a long delivery item that, under normal circumstances, would be delivered to the field more than 19 months after project start. Refer to Fig. 5.2.
