Discuss the speciai hazards of underground and singie-entry iabs. [Pg.141]

Clandestine drug laboratories (GDLs) are not commonly associated with terrorism, but they present the same hazards for public safety personnel. When responding to the scene of a GDL, you will follow the principles for response to a chemical weapon attack. Because GDLs are so common, you are likely to be called to the scene of a fire or explosion at a GDL, and you may be asked to team with law enforcement and fire personnel in a raid on a GDL. [Pg.142]

AU the chemicals used to produce methamphetamine and other related drugs are flammable, toxic, corrosive, explosive, and potentially carcinogenic. These dangers make personal protective equipment essential (see Chapter 1). [Pg.144]

During planned raids, a Site Safety Officer from the clandestine laboratory entry team should be designated to determine what level of protection is needed dming the raid and subsequent laboratory assessment. This individual must be well trained and certified in the CDL hazards and should have the authority to decide whether it is safe to enter the area. The Site Safety Officer should also make decisions regarding the decontamination of suspects and responders and should supervise air sampling and the assessment for chemical and physical hazards. [Pg.144]

G 85178 Construction Operation of Clandestine Drug Laboratories, Second Edition, by Jack B. Nimble. This revised and expanded edition describes, in step-by-step, illustrated detail, how to set up and run a clandestine drug lab — without getting caught Jack B. Nimble reveals how to select a location, discusses safety precautions — including how and when to shut down — and gives advice for covering your tracks. In a new development following the emergence of methcathinone abuse in Southern Africa, an attempt to divert 100 kg of ephedrine, an immediate precursor of methcathinone, was uncovered in South Africa when the substance was ordered for delivery to Zimbabwe. The shipment was stopped prior to the identification of the suspects or the laboratory involved. It is therefore unclear whether the illicit drug laboratory was located in Zimbabwe or whether the substance was to have been smuggled back into South Africa to laboratories already existing in that country. [Pg.17]

Note - AH mentioned before, ether fumes are explosive. Never work with it around an open flame or heating element. Never allow its fumes to build up in the work area. Even the spark fiom a light switch can ignite the fumes. Also use care when venting the fumes as this is one of the chief ways that the authorities uncover illicit drug laboratories. [Pg.108]

The costs associated with the treatment of a disease are categorized as direct costs and indirect costs. Those who are responsible for the payment of healthcare services are usually most interested in direct costs, or costs that are incurred directly as a result of the care of the patient s condition. These costs include hospitalization, physician visits, drugs, laboratory tests and procedures. They also include the treatment of drug-related side effects, the treatment of unfavorable drug drug interactions and the costs of switching from the current therapy to a new therapy. Direct costs may also include savings due to costs that are avoided inpatient days, outpatient visits, procedures and laboratory tests that do not occur. [Pg.304]

The first batch of the active substance needs the approval of the Centred Drug Laboratory in Calcutta before it is used for the manufacture of the formulation locally. Likewise, the first batch of the imported formulation has to be approved by the same laboratory before marketing. [Pg.208]
