Organophosphate pesticides do not cause a significant percentage of major mental illnesses, such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, but they do cause severe psychiatric symptoms of both acute and chronic duration. The most prominent psychiatric symptoms include early anxiety and emotional lability, followed by insomnia, excessive dreaming, nightmares, and reduced concentration. Other symptoms listed in Table 4-3 usually develop only after exposures severe enough to cause physical symptoms but may occur at lower doses in individuals with genetic vulnerability. The limited informa-... [Pg.78]

Moreover, we have to cope with one of the biggest dreams/nightmares of industrial chemists the high productivity AND selectivity AND safe oxidation of organic substrates by oxygen/air in the presence of suitable oxidation catalysts. Usually, this approach does not give fully acceptable results either with respect to the intrinsic safety of the process, or to its performances quite often deep oxidation takes place or difficult safety constraints must be considered. [Pg.368]

There was no one on site to supervise the construction process, and it turned out the contractor was less than scrupulous. He used traditional construction materials laden with formaldehyde. My dream house was a nightmare, a toxic soup I had to live in for ten months until we made the contractor buy it back from us. [Pg.112]

Every power in the universe, every archangel, every god, every ar-chon, every demon, is both out there, as a cosmic function and within us. Every state of consciousness is reflected in us. Among the effects on the central nervous system the following symptoms were pronounced excessive dreaming, insomnia, nightmares and headaches. [Pg.84]

All these drugs reduce sleep duration, decrease SWS and REM sleep, increase sleep latency and increase sleep fragmentation. They can cause a dose-related insomnia during use, and hypersomnia with increased dreaming and nightmares on withdrawal after chronic use. [Pg.164]

Efavirenz (Sustiva) is approved for the therapy of HIV infection of adults and children and is also used for postexposure prophylaxis. It is the only NNRTI approved for once-daUy dosing. Rash, although rarely severe, is a common adverse effect of efavirenz. Elevated liver enzymes and serum cholesterol also may occur. Central nervous system (CNS) effects in approximately half of patients may include dizziness, headache, insomnia, drowsiness, euphoria, agitation, impaired cognition, nightmares, vivid dreams, and hallucinations. These effects often subside after several weeks to months of therapy. [Pg.589]
