In ventral cells, Dorsal turns off genes (e.g., deca-pentaplegic, or dpp) needed to make dorsal structures. Dpp, a TGF(3-type signal produced in dorsal cells, functions in graded fashion to specify dorsal cell types. Dpp homologs in vertebrates (BMP proteins) also act in dorsoventral patterning. 

Toll was first identified as a protein that controls dorsoventral pattern formation in the early development of Drosophila [34] and was shown to participate in anti-microbial immune responses [35], Recently, several mammalian Toll homologues have been identified and been proven to play important roles in the pattern recognition of various bacterial components. Among them, TLR2 and TLR4 have been shown to be involved in signaling from lipoproteins and lipid A, respectively. 

Lzts2 previuosly called LAPSERl is a putative tumor suppressor that can directly interact with and mediate the nuclear export of P-catenin. We have recently shown that Lzts2 plays important roles in the dorsoventral patterning and embryonic cell movements in zebrafish (Li et al, 2011).
