Division 11, NDRC

In early February 1944, members of Division NDRC assembled in Jackson Barracks of New Orleans, which was primarily occupied by army soldiers. John Otvos wrote letters to his parents, which I quote in part here and more later. I omit salutations and farewells ... [Pg.160]

Important work on the theory of detonation process was performed during WWII in the US by-Division 8 of NDRC under G.B. Kistiakowsky, by.E.B. Wilson Jr and others. Summary of this work was given by S.R. Brinkley-Jr in Ref 39, pp 83-88 and we are using this important work in compiling this section of the Encyclopedia The NDRC review begins with. a qualitative discussion of the building up of a "discontinuous shock front . Then the Riemann formulation of the equation of hydrodynamics is introduced. This formulation was published in 1860 (Ref 1)... [Pg.603]

It should be noted that a new technique has been developed to cast large grains of solventless double-base proplnts for rocket motors. This means that in future it will not be always necessary to use composite proplnts in prepn of large rocket proplnt grains Refs l)Anon, "The Preparation and Testing of Explosives , Summary Technical Report of Division 8, NDRC Vol 1 (1946), 93ff la)W. In the summer of 1942, the National Defense Research Committee (NDRC) changed completely the nature of our research. In July 1942, a group of imiversity scientists who were working on chemical warfare problems met in Evanston, Illinois this group later became Divisions 9 and 10 of the National Defense Research Committee (NDRC). By that time many potential chemical war gases had been identified, synthesized by chemists, tested on animals for toxicity, and tested with respect to how well gas masks stopped them. The group discussed what else should be done. [Pg.60]
