DCOM (distributed component object model) is the ORB that Microsoft promotes. A DCOM is implemented on the Windows operating system, and the development of applications can be practiced by using a Microsoft development environment such as Visual Basic. 

There has been a flurry of interest over the past decade in the use of object-oriented tools that focus on the representation of human knowledge and how humans use that knowledge in reed situations to make decisions and act. An example of this approach is the Distributed Operator Model Architecture (DOMAR), developed by Dr. Michael Young of the Wright Patterson Air Force Research Laboratories and Mr. Stephen Deutsch of BBN Inc. (Young and Deutsch 1999). The system is composed of a framework of software languages and model-development tools. As with the other models discussed in this section, the intention is to provide the analyst with the necessary components to develop models that simulate both the human operators and the systems with which they interact. 

It is important to mention that all concepts presented for distribution optimization are valid for both a company owned or an outsourced distribution operation and the decision for outsource or not, should be aligned with the company s strategic direction, financial objectives, and core function analysis. 

Crystallization process control is desirable from a number of standpoints. The primary objective is often to meet customer requirements by achieving consistent product quality to a desired specification of crystal size, size distribution and purity. Secondly, process requirements often dictate maintenance of stable crystallizer operation, the avoidance of fines and encrustation, and the minimization of subsequent downstream processing.

A field test was conducted by spraying a commercial oil spill-dispersant (Corexit 9527) from aircraft [696]. Test objectives were to determine the efficiency of delivering the dispersant to a selected target using a large aircraft and to compare various measurement systems for droplet size and spray pattern distribution. The results indicated that aerial flights up to 46 m can produce droplet sizes and swath widths that would be operationally effective for an oil spill. 

There are some other characteristics of the Poisson distribution that differ from the Normal distribution in ways that are of importance to us here. The chief one is that the Poisson distribution does not admit of negative values. This makes intuitive sense since the Poisson distribution is a distribution that results from a counting operation, the smallest number that you can achieve when counting objects is zero. We will be using this fact during the course of our derivations.
