Dilhiocarbamates and their analogues have 2 potential S-donor atoms joined to a single C atom and their complexes are sometimes called 1,1-dithiolato complexes. If the 2 S atoms are Joined to adjacent C atoms then the equally numerous class of 1,2-dithiolato complexes results. The 119Sn NMR spectra of the 1,2-dithiolato complexes discussed above in various solvents indicate ionized species with anions containing six-coordinate tin atoms. The i5119Sn NMR values are about —248 ppm for [Sn(DMrr)2X2]2, —249 2 ppm for [Sn(DMIT)3]2, 278 5 for [Sn(DMIO)3]2 and -237 for a single [Sn(DSIT)3]2 complex987,988 these values are in the region for six-coordinate tin species.

Metal complexes of 1,1-dithiolates have been reviewed by Coucou-vanis (1) Eisenberg (2) presented a systematic, structural review of dithiolato chelates, and Stokolosa ct al. (3) reviewed dithiophosphate complexes in detail. Earlier reviews (4-3) covered less recent work in greater detail. Following initial work by Delepine (9), 1,1-dithiolato complexes were more intensively studied between 1930 and 1941 (10-16). There is, however, continuous interest in the synthesis, characterization, electronic structures, and bonding of these complexes.
