The use of chlorinated trisodium phosphate is declining. It has been largely replaced by chlorinated isocyanurates in powdered abrasive cleansers and automatic dishwash detergents to reduce cost, improve performance, or comply with restrictions on the use of phosphates. Some chlorinated trisodium phosphate is stiU used in commercial laundries and in disinfectant cleaners. [Pg.143]

Economic Aspects. Sodium hypochlorite—trisodium phosphate complex was commercialized in 1930. Chlorinated TSP is manufactured by Stauffer (a subsidiary of Rhc ne-Poulenc, Inc.). The consumption, steadily decreasing since 1980, dropped sharply in 1985 because of reduced use in dishwasher detergents. The estimated demand in 1987 was 37,360 t (220). In 1988 it sold for 0.32/lb ( 0.70/kg) for tmddoad quantities of 660 kg (300-lb) dmms. [Pg.472]

Controlled chlorination of cyanuric acid results in the formation of di- and tri-chloroisocyanuric acids containing more than 90% available chlorine, which are used in dishwashing detergents and industrial and commercial laundries for their effective bleaching and disinfecting properties. They can be dry-packaged for domestic use and compete with the commonly used sodium hypochlorite. [Pg.10]

Until the end of the 1980s, almost all dishwashing detergents were highly alkaline formulations, based on meta silicate, phosphate, and chlorine bleach (trichloroisocyanurate). Later they were replaced by low-alkaline P-free or P-reduced formulations comprising disilicates and perborate, with a pH of 9-11. Replacement of chlorine bleach and pH reduction allowed the use of enzymes, especially amylases and proteases, but caused serious problems with tea stain removal. [Pg.410]

These products are mostly used as color safe bleach in dry bleaches and laundry detergents. They are also gaining popularity in automatic dishwasher detergents as a replacement for chlorinated products. Owing to its stability, PBS was the bleaching product of choice in laundry detergents.
