Direct to home

Natural gas, unlike oil, is delivered directly to homes and businesses through local distribution lines. Large distribution lines, called mains, move the gas close to cities. These main lines, along with the much smaller lines to homes and businesses, deliver natural gas under streets in almost every city and town and account for the vast majority of pipeline mileage in the U.S.—1.8 million miles. [Pg.414]

Fig. 12.2 Disposition of patients classified as minor or major strokes by BASIS. In a study of 230 consecutive patients, approximately 25% were classified as major strokes. Highly significant differences in disposition were identified between groups. AH deaths during hospitalization occurred in major stroke patients. Of the major stroke patients who survived, over 70% were discharged to an inpatient rehabilitation facility (IRF) compared to less than 20% of minor stroke patients (p<0.001). Over 75% of minor stroke patients were discharged directly to home compared to less than 20% of major stroke patients (p< 0.001). A similar proportion of both groups were discharged to specialized nursing facilities (SNF). Adapted from Torres-Mozqueda et al. [4]... The Internet. According to the United Nations International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the number of Internet users across the world met the two billion mark in January 2011. Much like standard telephone service, the capacity, ease, and speed to the Internet has been greatly increased by the replacement of phone-based modem systems, cable modems, and digital subscriber line (DSL) by fiber-optics wired systems. Although fiber-optic connections directly to homes in the United States are not available in all areas, some companies use fiber-optic systems down major networking lines and then split to traditional copper wiring for houses. [Pg.745]

High-power direct broadcast satellites (DBS) or direct-to-home (DTH) satellites operate atKu-band. In the U.S., satellites operating in the broadcast sateUite service (BSS) with downlink frequencies of 12.2-12.7 GHz, deliver TV directly to home receivers having parabolic dish antennas as small as 46 cm (18 in) in diameter. DBS with digital modulation and compressed video is providing more than 150 National Television Systems Committee (NTSC) TV channels from a single orbital location having an allocation of 32 transponder channels, each with 24-MHz bandwidth. [Pg.1788]

HLL s growth strategy was to ask self-help groups (SHGs) to operate as rural direct-to-home teams of saleswomen, who would accomplish several tasks by raising awareness and educating people about HLL products as weU as selling the products directly within their communities. [Pg.170]

Every effort has been made to select the most useful and most reliable information and to record it with accuracy. However, the editor s many years of involvement with handbooks bring a realization of the opportunities for gremlins to exert their inevitable mischief. It is hoped that users of this handbook will offer suggestions of material that might be included in, or even excluded from, future editions and call attention to errors. These communications should be directed to the editor at his home address (or by telephone). [Pg.1288]

A house is a complex system of interacting parts that contribute to overall performance including comfort, energy use, health, maintenance, and longevity. For example, a common air distribution system utilizes supply ducts running through the attic and return ducts tied directly to the air handler inside the home. If the ductwork is not properly sealed and there are combustion appliances in the home, this configuration can lead to health and fire hazards because the... [Pg.208]

Commercial laundry dryers can not be easily vented to the outside in the same way that home laundry dryers are. Because of this fact, the moist air is passed through a condenser where the water will accumulate. If there is no direct water drain, the water is directed to a holding tank. The water level is monitored using a magnetic float. When the water rises to the full level, the reed sensor is activated and shuts down the dryer. Once the water is removed, the reed sensor is deactivated, enabling the dryer to operate. [Pg.135]

How could terrorists deliver VX One expert was asked this question on television. His answer "crop dusters. But how would a crop duster flown by a terrorist be able to reach an urban area and fly at altitudes low enough to be effective Even in rural areas, unless able to fly directly over homes or pedestrians, crop dusters could scarcely present a real threat. Experts on crop dusters have pointed out that they can only spread particles at least 20-40 microns in diameter, while nerve agent particles are much smaller. [Pg.262]

Drop-on-demand (DOD) inkjet is the method that is universally adopted in the printers used in the home and the office environments. It takes its generic name from the fact that ink is delivered from the ink head directly to the substrate only as demanded by the printing information supplied by the software. [Pg.143]

Most homes have rain gutters attached at the edge of the roof to catch water coming down the roof surface the water is then directed to a downspout. The gutters are often trapezoidal prisms where one side of the trapezoid is perpendicular to the two parallel sides so that it forms a flat attachment to the side of the house. [Pg.292]

Sandra is in her early thirties, and was referred to our service when social services had concerns about neglect of her children and some violence in the home. She had actually been a patient of ours before, receiving methadone maintenance for a heroin problem dating back ten years, but in further allocating the cases within the city she had been directed to primary care management, because of her seemingly unproblematic progress. [Pg.103]

William Halstead was a founder of Johns Hopkins University, and the inventor of the radical mastectomy (removal of the breast). Halstead was also the first American surgeon to investigate cocaine as a local anaesthetic, a painkiller applied directly to the wound or other source of pain. Unfortunately, Halstead took his work home with him. [Pg.359]
