The alkylphenols behave in the same manner as fatty alcohols. The nonyl (or octyl) phenol is widely used with 8 to 12 molecules of ethylene oxide. Nonylphenol is completely soluble in water at room temperature and exhibits excellent detergency. Dodecylphenol ethoxylate is used in certain agriculture emulsifiers and dinonylphenol as low or nonfoaming ingredients of household washing machine powders [3, 4]. [Pg.140]

The terpolymers had the following constant composition by weight 30% hydrophobic monomer, 35% methacrylic acid, 35% associative monomer. The associative monomer is a 50 mol ethoxylated dinonylphenol adduct of a,a -dimethyl-m-isopropenylbenzyl isocyanate. The procedures for the associative monomer and AST syntheses are those described in ref. 10. All raw material lots and reaction conditions were identical. [Pg.475]

APE use is limited to commercial and industrial applications which are not considered likely to make a large contribution to municipal sewage treatment plants, such as in textile chemicals. The alkyl chain is usually (diisobutylene), C9 (propylene trimer), or C12 (propylene tetramer). The nonylphenol ethoxylates (NPE) are used in much greater volume than the others, perhaps 80% of the market. Octylphenol ethoxylates (OPE) have about 15% of the market and dinonylphenol- and dodecylphenolethoxylates are at about 1% each. All are excellent for the removal of oily soils and can be produced at lower cost than the more abundant alcohol ethoxylates. [Pg.60]
