Dihydrostreptomycin

Dihydrostreptomycin, in which the CHO group in the middle ring is replaced by CH2OH, is made by the catalytic reduction of streptomycin, and has similar antibacterial properties. [Pg.373]

The combined pharmaceutical appHcations account for an estimated 25% of DMF consumption. In the pharmaceutical industry, DMF is used in many processes as a reaction and crystallizing solvent because of its remarkable solvent properties. For example, hydrocortisone acetate [50-03-3] dihydrostreptomycin sulfate [5490-27-7] and amphotericin A [1405-32-9] are pharmaceutical products whose crystallization is faciHtated by the use of DMF. Itis also a good solvent for the fungicide griseofulvin/72%(97-< 7 and is used in its production. [Pg.514]

Derivatives of Streptidine. The first arniaoglycoside to be isolated was streptomycia (2, R = CHO), which is a derivative of streptidine (13) shown in Table 2. A number of derivatives have been prepared (126), the most interesting of which was dihydrostreptomycin [128-46-1] C22H42N2O22 (2,... [Pg.483]

Dihydrostreptomycin sesquisulfate [5490-27-7] M 461.4, m 250 (dec), 255-265 (dec), [a]p -92.4 (c 1, H2O), pKgsJd)-- 9.5 (NMe), pKes,(2,3) 13.4 (guanidino). It crystallises from H2O with MeOH, -BuOH or methyl ethyl ketone. The crystals are not hygroscopic like the amorphous powder, however both forms are soluble in H2O but the amorphous solid is about 10 times more soluble than the crystals. The free base also crystallises from H20-Me2C0 and has [a]p -92° (aqueous solution pH 7.0). [Solomons and Regina Science 109 515 7949 Wolf et al. Science 109 515 7949 McGilveray and Rinehart J Am Chem Soc 87 4003 1956]. [Pg.530]

Dihydrostreptomycin sulfate may be prepared from streptomycin sulfate by catalytic hydrogenation (Merck, Pfizer, Cyanamid), electrolytic reduction (Schenley, Olin Mathieson), or by sodium boro hydride reduction (Bristol), or by isolation from a fermentation process (Takeda). [Pg.492]
