0,0-Diethyl 0- 4- phenyl phosphorothioate

Parathion degraded on both glass surfaces and on bean plant leaves. Metabolites reported were paraoxon, 4-nitrophenol, and a compound tentatively identified as 5-ethyl parathion (El-Refai and Hopkins, 1966). Upon exposure to high intensity UV light, parathion was altered to the following photoproducts paraoxon, 0,5-diethyl 0-4-nitrophenyl phosphorothioate, 0,0-diethyl 5-4-nitrophenyl phosphorothioate, 0,0-bis(4-nitrophenyl) 0-ethyl phosphorothioate, 0,0-bis(4-nitrophenyl) 0-ethyl phosphate, 0,0-diethyl 0-phenyl phosphorothioate, and 0,0-diethyl 0-phenyl phosphate (Joiner et al., 1971).

Based on the process developed by Schrader (1948c), its production began in 1949. It is 2-3 times more sensitive to hydrolysis than parathion. In a manner similar to parathion, it undergoes thion-thiol isomerisation at high temperatures. However, isomerisation results in different products. While 0,0-diethyl-S-p-nitrophenyl phosphorothioate (25) is formed from parathion, the isomerisation of parathion-methyl under identical conditions yields 0,S-dimethyl-0-(p-nitro-phenyl) phosphorothioate (26) (McPherson and Johnson, 1956). 

Diethyl-0-[4-(methylsulfonyl)phenyl] phosphorothioate (fensulfothion, 11), used also as insecticide, exhibits a potent nematocidal action against almost all the phytopathogenic nematodes (Schegk and Schrader, 1958). Its solubility in water is somewhat better than that of dichlofenthion. It is very toxic, its oral ld,o for female rats being 2.2 mg/kg, and for male rats 10.5 mg/kg. 

S-phenyl thiophosphoric acid have been detected, while the organic solvent phase contained edifenphos, 0,0-diethyl-S-phenyl phosphorothioate, S,S,S-triphenyl phosphorotrithioate and diphenyl sulfide. A similar metabolism was found in warm-blooded organisms. Edifenphos hydrolyses less than the other organophos-phorus compounds (Takase and Ken BiTan, 1973 Ueyama et al., 1973). 

R-33 865 (15) has bwn described by Fukuto and Metcalf (1956). Its chemical name is 0,0-diethyl-0-phenyl phosphorothioate.

Snyder et al. [253] compared supercritical fluid chromatography with classical sonication procedures and Soxhlet extraction for the determination of selected insecticides in soils and sediments. In this procedure the sample was extracted with carbon dioxide modified with 3% methanol at 350atm and 50°C. An excess of 85% recovery of organochlorine and organophosphorus insecticides was achieved.
