Other much less detailed results concerning gold-catalysed hydrogenation have been reported. The bis(dioxolanyl)oxazolidinone 33 has been prepared from D-mannitol and evaluated as a chiral auxiliary <02MT749> and the diamine 34 has been examined as a ligand for rhodium catalysed asymmetric hydrogenation of diethyl itaconate <02JOU104>. Deracemisation of 2-benzylcyclohexanone by formation of an inclusion complex with the TADDOL compound 35 has been described and the mechanism clarified by X-ray structure determination of the complex <02T3401>. A production process for the bis(phosphine oxide) 36 has been patented <02USP6472539>. 

Dicarbonylation occurs mainly by the carbonylation of propargylic halides and alcohols carried out under a high pressure of carbon monoxide. The carbonylation of propargyl bromide (51) at 20 atm affords 2,3-butadienoate (52) as described in Section 11.3.2.2. On the other hand, carbonylation of propargyl chloride (77) in methanol at room temperature under high pressure (100 atm) catalyzed by PdClj or Pd/charcoal afforded dimethyl itaconate (79). The primary product seems to be 2,3-butadienoate (78), which is carbonylated further (Scheme 11-23) [10,11]. As supporting evidence, formation of diethyl itaconate (81) in 64% yield by the carbonylation of ethyl 2,3-butadienoate (80) at room temperature under high pressure was confiimed.

Tetrafluoroethylene adds photochemically to 3p-acetoxy-pregna-5,16-dien-20-one by [2 + 2] addition to the C—C bond of the enone grouping and by [2 + 4] addition to this function. ...
