Diaphoretic agent

Elder is known for its diaphoretic and anticatarrhal properties. Traditionally, it is used for influenza, colds, chronic nasal catarrh with deafness, and sinusitis. Elder is also believed to act as a diuretic, laxative, and local anti-inflammatory agent. 

Diaphoretic- an agent used for increasing perspiration through the skin. 

Sassafras The dried bark of the root of Sassafras varllfoltum, used as a diaphoretic, a flavoring agent, and aromatic bitters. It also yields an aromatic, volatile oil used In perfumes. 

Teucrium species have been used for more than 2000 years as medicinal plants. They showed diuretic, diaphoretic, antiseptic and antipyretic activities. Antifeedant activities of some species previously studied against Spodeptera littoralis were presented herein. Teucrium species are used as hypoglycemic agents in North Africa and Saudi Arabia. They also possess antispasmolitic activity and used in the treatment of stomach aches. Some of the Teucrium extracts exhibited central nervous system depressant action. 

Teucrium species are used in folk medicine as diuretic, diaphoretic, carminative, astringent, stimulant and tonic, antiseptic, antipyretic and antiinflammatory agents. T. cubense [92] for example is used against stomach aches and as an amoebacide. Teucjaponin A(32) obtained from T. japonicum [33] was shown to be antifeedant for the larve of Prodenia litura. Its threshold concentration for inhibitory activity was about 400 ppm in the leaf disk test. Generally neo-clerodane diterpenes posses insect antifeedant activity and they are used as antifungal, antitumor and antibacterial agents [56,63]. About 5 mg of antimony shows a strong diaphoretic action (induces sweating), while 50 mg or more acts as an emetic. There are rumours that Mozart s death was due to acute antimony tartarate poisoning. It is also known that several Victorian doctors used antimony to dispose quietly of their unwanted wives or relatives.
