Diagnostic parameters

The most eomprehensive object from the diagnostic point of view still remains the human being with the variety of diagnostic parameters of his different organs, ills and ete. [Pg.914]

Elucidation of the actual values of key diagnostic parameters that have been used for a long time by ORR experimentahsts, including primarily the measured Tafel slope and the reaction order with regard to O2, and their predictive power regarding the ORR mechanism. [Pg.10]

Recently certain diagnostic parameters have been exploited to allow a discrimination among several rival models. These diagnostic parameters can be grouped into two broad classes—those that are inherently present in the model, and those that are introduced solely for the purpose of model discrimination. [Pg.142]

The development of an adequate mathematical model representing a physical or chemical system is the object of a considerable effort in research and development activities. A technique has been formalized by Box and Hunter (B14) whereby the functional form of reaction-rate models may be exploited to lead the experimenter to an adequate representation of a given set of kinetic data. The procedure utilizes an analysis of the residuals of a diagnostic parameter to lead to an adequate model with a minimum number of parameters. The procedure is used in the building of a model representing the data rather than the postulation of a large number of possible models and the subsequent selection of one of these, as has been considered earlier. That is, the residual analysis of intrinsic parameters, such as Cx and C2, will not only indicate the inadequacy of a proposed model (if it exists) but also will indicate how the model might be modified to yield a more satisfactory theoretical model. [Pg.147]

Several studies have shown that the fluoride balance can be negative [8]. This occurs when the chronic intake is reduced to the extent that concentrations of fluoride in plasma fall and mobilization of fluoride from calcified tissues proceeds. However, there is no evidence so far from human studies that clinical signs of fluoride deficiency exist no specific clinical or biochemical diagnostic parameters have been related to fluoride deficiency [8,39]. In the present state of knowledge, therefore, negative fluoride balance cannot be used for establishing an Al of fluoride. [Pg.536]

A comprehensive discussion on the stoichiometric number has been published by Reeve [53] from which it appears that v fails as an electro-kinetic diagnostic parameter when the apparent rate coefficient cannot be expressed independently of concentration (a) when two or more steps of different v are simultaneous rds or (b) when non-ideal adsorption is operative. [Pg.47]

The product ix1/2 is a significant diagnostic parameter in chrono-potentiometry. It is apparent from the Sand equation that the quantity ixI/2 is a constant for a given concentration of electroactive species. The application of... [Pg.131]

However, be aware that in spite of the usefulness of the MIB-1 antibody in assessing the rate of cell proliferation, the classification of cancers (e.g., breast cancer) by the size of the primary tumor and the presence and extent of lymph node metastases does not adequately explain differences in the clinical outcome of individual patients. Cell proliferation indices are commonly used, along with other diagnostic parameters, to estimate the risk of recurrence of a cancer for individual patients. Therefore, it is important to understand the relationship between various indices of proliferation such as MIB-1 labeling index and detection by either in situ hybridization or polymerase chain reaction. This approach will lead to quality assurance in diagnosis. [Pg.39]

Changes in isomerization selectivity in the reaction of neopentane with H2 may be a convenient diagnostic parameter to determine if Pd interacts with a support. Sometimes such changes are very small, for example, the case of differently treated Pd/Al203 catalysts (204). However, in this case,... [Pg.90]

Suppose a selection has to be made between two rival models, both of which have already been fitted to the experimental data and their parameters estimated. Then a new dependent variable is defined [68] containing a nonintrinsic diagnostic parameter /. and the cal-... [Pg.319]

A diagnostic parameter for specific defects of the hemostatic system and for the influence of drugs affecting hemostasis is the length of time that it takes for bleeding to stop from a standard incision, the so-called bleeding time. [Pg.300]

The most significant diagnostic parameter for distinguishing between Loewenstein s and Dempsey s models should be x because it directly measures the number of second-nearest Al-AI pairs. [Pg.225]
