Diacetone acrylamide

Other examples of DAP copolymerizations of industrial interest include copolymerization with MMA in emulsion (50) and for light focusing rods (51) with vinyl naphthalene for lenses (52) with epoxy acrylates and glass fibers (53) epoxy acrylates and coatings (54) with diacetone acrylamide (55) with ahphatic diepoxide compounds (56) triaHyl cyanurate in lacquers for printed circuits (57) and DAIP with MMA (58). [Pg.85]

The water content of a hydrogel depends on the hydrophilicity of the monomer, eg, cured poly(HEMA) absorbs 60% of its weight of water and thus forms a hydrogel with about 38% water content. Other hydrophilic monomers, such as A/-vinylpyrrohdinone [88-12-0] (NVP) (6), and glycerol methacrylate [100-92-5] (GM) (7), and acrylamide monomers, such as diacetone acrylamide [2873-94-9] (DAA), have also been used to form hydrogels with higher water content. [Pg.104]

A different approach, although stdl working with essentially non-fiinctional polymers has been exemplified [114,115], in which, a 100% solid (solvent free) hot melt has been irradiated to produce pressure-sensitive adhesives with substantially improved adhesive properties. Acrylic polymers, vinyl acetate copolymers with small amounts of A,A -dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate, diacetone acrylamide, A-vinyl pyrrohdone (NVP) or A A have been used in this study. Polyfunctional acrylates, such as trimethylolpropane trimethacrylate (TMPTMA) and thermal stabilizers can also be used. [Pg.866]

Acrylamide copolymers designed to reduce undesired amide group hydrolysis, increase thermal stability, and improve solubility in saline media have been synthesized and studied for EOR applications. These polymers still tend to be shear sensitive. Acrylamide comonomers that have been used include 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropane sulfonate, abbreviated AMPS, (1,321-324), 2-sulfo-ethylmethacrylate (325,326), diacetone acrylamide (324, 326), and vinylpyrrolidinone (327,328). Acrylamide terpolymers include those with sodium acrylate and acrylamido-N-dodecyl-N-butyl sulfonate (329), with AMPS and N,N-dimethylacrylamide (330), with AMPS and N-vinylpyrrolidinone (331), and with sodium acrylate and sodium methacrylate (332). While most copolymers tested have been random copolymers, block copolymers of acrylamide and AMPS also have utility in this application (333). [Pg.37]

Next-generation soft contact lenses, dental polymers, surface coatings, and similar materials are produced from compounds of varying structure and reactive functionality. For example, currently in development are new soft lenses that will be manufactured from monomers synthesized with dimethylsil-oxane backbones. The dimethylsiloxane backbone is terminated with a methacryloxy functionality that supplies the site for polymerization. The siloxane provides lens softness. Occasionally the functionality is formed on both ends of the monomer, resulting in undesired properties. The compound BisGMA is a monomer that is polymerized to form hard dental structures. In the monomer synthesis process impurities are coproduced that interfere with the polymerization. Finally, diacetone acrylamide used in a copolymerization process is another specialty monomer that is occasionally contaminated with difficult-to-remove impurities. These three monomers are quite reactive at modest temperature and cannot be purified by distillation. The three examples that are presented here derive from as yet unpublished research (Krukonis, 1982c). [Pg.285]
