Ammonium alginate

Alginic acid, ammonium salt ammonium polymannuronate E404 Keltose. [Pg.46]

Ammonium alginate is the ammonium salt of alginic acid. [Pg.46]

Solubility dissolves slowly in water to form a viscous solution  [Pg.46]

Ammonium alginate is a hygroscopic material, although it is stable if stored at low relative humidities and cool temperatures. [Pg.46]

Incompatible with oxidizing agents and strong acids and alkalis. [Pg.46]

Pressing is carried out within a cemented carbide die between two steel or cemented carbide punches. In order to impart enough mechanical strength to the blank to permit further manipulation without risk, removable organic binders (camphor, natural or synthetic waxes, latex or synthetic rubber, methyl polymethacrylate, polyvinyl alcohol, carboxymethylcellulose, ammonium alginate) are mixed into the powder, dissolved in a convenient volatile solvent. Some of these also act as lubricants thus minimizing the wear on the die. [Pg.298]

One of the methods of concentrating normal rubber latex the rubber globules rise to the surface of the heavier serum, the process usually being hastened by the addition of creaming agents such as ammonium alginate. [Pg.20]

Assay A sample yields not less than 18% and not more than 21% of carbon dioxide (CO2), corresponding to between 88.7% and 103.6% of Ammonium Alginate (equiv wt 217.00), calculated on the dried basis. [Pg.26]

Assay Determine as directed under Alginates Assay, Appendix IIIC. Each milliliter of 0.25 N sodium hydroxide consumed in the assay is equivalent to 27.12 mg of Ammonium Alginate (equiv wt 217.00). [Pg.26]

Ammonium alginate is widely used in cosmetics and food products, and also in pharmaceutical formulations such as tablets. It is generally regarded as a nontoxic and nonirritant material, although excessive oral consumption may be harmful. [Pg.46]

Ammonium alginate is widely used in foods as a stabilizer, thickener and emulsifier. It is also used in pharmaceutical preparations as a color-diluent, emulsifier, film-former, and humectant. [Pg.46]

Ammonium alginate occurs as white to yellowish brown filamentous, grainy, granular, or powdered forms. [Pg.46]

Although not included in any pharmacopeias, a specification for ammonium alginate is contained in the Food Chemicals Codex (FCC), see Table I. [Pg.46]
