Detergents main surfactant

This type of program relies as much on the detergent and surfactant properties of the biofilm control agent as it does on its biocidal properties. With the use of BCAs, rather than sole reliance of heavy-duty biocides, the sessile microorganisms are swept into the main body of the cooling system. More traditional biocides may still be required periodically. 

Alkylbenzene sulfonates are the main surfactants used in household cleaners, detergents and sanitary formulations, as well as in industrial and institutional cleaners. They are used in the production of fabrics. They are also used as emulsifiers, in many technical processes as wetting agents and dispersants, e.g. in polymerisation processes and in the formulation of plant protection products. 

The main component of detergents is surfactant. The eldest known surfaetant is soap. Chemically soap is an alkaline salt of fatty acid. Characteristic of soap (and surfactant) is the molecular structure consisting of apolar - hydrophobic - part (fatty acid) and a polar - hydrophilic - part (-COONa), causing surface activity in aqueous solution. 

Synthetic detergent bars deliver much of the same chemistry to the wash as heavy-duty granules. The primary cleaning power comes from anionic surfactants along with phosphate builders such as sodium tripolyphosphate (STPP) and tetra sodium pyro phosphate (TSPP). In India, Latin America, and Africa, LAS is used as the main surfactant, whereas in the Philippines, a combination of alcohol sulfates (preferably coconut based) and LAS is used as the surfactant system. In premium bars, STPP is the preferred builder as it offers, in addition to excellent hardness binding capacity.

Since methyl ester ethoxylates are moderate foamers, and undergo significant hydrolysis at a pH greater than 9, they will not likely be used as the main surfactant in either hand or machine dish detergents. However, because of their ability to remove solid soil, methyl ester ethoxylates may find use not as a foam stabilizers or foam-generating surfactants but for enhancement of soil removal properties.

Detergency is mainly affected by the concentration and stmcture of surfactant, hardness and builders present, and the nature of the soil and substrate. Other important factors include wash temperature length of time of washing process mechanical action relative amounts of sod, substrate, and bath, generally expressed as the bath ratio, ie, the ratio of the bath weight to substrate weight and rinse conditions. 

The applications of a-sulfo fatty acid esters are widely spread as for other surfactants. They can be used in detergents, cleansers, and cosmetic products as well as in the building industry and for the production of synthetic materials and agrochemicals. The main properties for these applications are surface activity, wetting ability, hard water stability, lime soap dispersion power, and good human and environmental safety profiles. 

Although only the types of surfactants presently used in main detergent formulation have been indicated, the system allows for processing of a wider range of product while still complying with the maintenance of the quality level of the feed. Moreover, products like hydrotropes or blends of surfactants and inorganic salts can be conveniently processed to yield preformulated surfactant bases ready for incorporation in formulated detergents.
