The presence of redox catalysts in the electrode coatings is not essential in the c s cited alx)ve because the entrapped redox species are of sufficient quantity to provide redox conductivity. However, the presence of an additional redox catalyst may be useful to support redox conductivity or when specific chemical redox catalysis is used. An excellent example of the latter is an analytical electrode for the low level detection of alkylating agents using a vitamin 8,2 epoxy polymer on basal plane pyrolytic graphite The preconcentration step involves irreversible oxidative addition of R-X to the Co complex (see Scheme 8, Sect. 4.4). The detection by reductive voltammetry, in a two electron step, releases R that can be protonated in the medium. Simultaneously the original Co complex is restored and the electrode can be re-used. Reproducible relations between preconcentration times as well as R-X concentrations in the test solutions and voltammetric peak currents were established. The detection limit for methyl iodide is in the submicromolar range. [Pg.76]

Bisphenol A is used as a raw material to make polycarbonate and epoxy adhesives and can coatings. It is also used in flame-retardants, in unsaturated polyesters and in polyacrylate resins. Many foodstuff containers are made of these resins, including containers for oven and microwave cooking. Recent studies have shown that bisphenol type compounds have both mutagenic and cytotoxic properties [84]. Nerin et al. developed a fast screening method based on SPME and HPLC with fluorescence detection suitable for the analysis of several bisphenol derivatives and their degradation products in aqueous canned foods such as tuna, olives and corn [85]. The best results were obtained with carbowax and PDMS/DVB fibers. The detection limits were between 0.7 and 2.4ngmL while RSDs were between 14 and 32%. There are numerous techniques known for adhesion and delamination testing, some of the most common being a tape test, stud-pull test, scratch test, and an indentation test [1]. In the tape test, a tape is pulled off the surface containing a scratch, which provides the failure initiation. In the stud pull test, a stud held with thermosetting epoxy is pulled off the film surface. The indentation test, wherein a ball is pressed into the surface, is used for hard coatings, and the failure pattern indicates acceptable behavior. In the scratch test, where an indenter moves in both vertical (loading) and horizontal (sliding) directions, an acoustic emission sensor allows for detection of the initiation of fiacture, while the scratch pattern indicates the type of failure. [Pg.80]

The (physically wetting) polyaniline primer CORRPASSIV was compared with a fast-drying two-component epoxy resin primer (Messrs. Finalin, Type 144) and a metal-reactive two-component primer with adhesion-promoting properties (Type 918). All three primers were coated with a two-component polyurethane paint (B412). CORRPASSIV, both with and without top coat, exhibited no rust formation beneath the primer. The slight undermining receded after the test, and even within the cross and scratch injuries, it was virtually impossible to detect any corrosion. [Pg.592]
