Designated contacts

Labor and maintenance costs can usually be kept to the order of a few cents per pound of metal produced. However, where a circuit has been improperly designed and several manual operations are required, then labor and maintenance costs can be high. Excessive solvent entrainment losses, mentioned earlier, are added to labor costs. Any crud that forms and has to be removed can result in additional costs from labor requirements. For example, if incorrectly designed contacting equipment is chosen, which results in periodic shutdowns necessary for cleaning because of formation of cruds and precipitates, a major maintenance problem could arise. 

The BP rebnery used a bltration/GAC system to treat API separator effluent before discharge. It consisted of three parallel adsorbers each containing 42,000 kg of carbon in beds 14 m (45 ft) deep. Determine whether commercial design overall KgO- values are available for use in conjunction with the traditional design method, being careful to note whether the conditions under which the KqU data were obtained are essentially the same as for the new design. Contact the various tower-packing vendors for information as to whether K a data are available for your system and conditions. 

Faced with the challenge of ion pair binding, there are three basic ion pair receptor designs contact ion pair receptors (including cascade complexes) in which the anion and cation are bound as a contact ion pair, ditopic receptors with individual, well-separated anion and cation binding sites, and zwitterion receptors, Figure 5.2. It is generally agreed that no more than about 20 per cent of the design contact area in interference fits actually takes the compressive loads created by hoop stresses. 

Advances in tube metallurgy have made it possible for furnace designers to reduce contact times for commercial pyrolysis plants. Thus over the past decade, design contact times have been reduced in several stages from over 2 seconds to 0,25 seconds, with each step providing an increase in ethylene yield and a decrease in relative tail gas production. 

Because their true advantages appear only if flow reactors are customized for the exact reaction they facilitate, there is a great variety of flow reactor systems. Designing contact modes for reactants with catalysts, which is required for most reactors, has led to further design variations. Typically, catalysts either remain stationary as reactants flow along or through them in a packed (or fixed-) bed reactor, or catalysts move with reactants in a fluidized bed reactor. 

At the scene of an incident, the media will need a designated contact person, a system for the rapid acquisition of information and a media rendezvous point.
