Design limitations

Parallel to that the MDL Molfile format (see the Tutorial in Section 2.4.6) developed at Molecular Design Limited (now MDL Information Systems, Inc.) became a de facto standard file format [50]. [Pg.45]

Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy. Bmker s database, designed for use with its spectrophotometers, contains 20,000 C-nmr and H-nmr, as weU as a combined nmr-ms database (66). Sadder Laboratories markets a PC-based system that can search its coUection of 30,000 C-nmr spectra by substmcture as weU as by peak assignments and by fiiU spectmm (64). Other databases include one by Varian and a CD-ROM system containing polymer spectra produced by Tsukuba University, Japan. CSEARCH, a system developed at the University of Vieima by Robien, searches a database of almost 16,000 C-nmr. Molecular Design Limited (MDL) has adapted the Robien database to be searched in the MACCS and ISIS graphical display and search environment (63). Projects are under way to link the MDL system with the Sadder Hbrary and its unique search capabiHties. [Pg.121]

Global AMI.5 sun illumination of intensity 100 mW/cm ). The DOS (or defect) is found to be low with a dangling bond (DB) density, as measured by electron spin resonance (esr) of - 10 cm . The inherent disorder possessed by these materials manifests itself as band tails which emanate from the conduction and valence bands and are characterized by exponential tails with an energy of 25 and 45 meV, respectively the broader tail from the valence band provides for dispersive transport (shallow defect controlled) for holes with alow drift mobiUty of 10 cm /(s-V), whereas electrons exhibit nondispersive transport behavior with a higher mobiUty of - 1 cm /(s-V). Hence the material exhibits poor minority (hole) carrier transport with a diffusion length <0.5 //m, which puts a design limitation on electronic devices such as solar cells. [Pg.360]

High Water Velocities. The abiUty of high water velocities to minimize fouling depends on the nature of the foulant. Clay and silt deposits are more effectively removed by high water velocities than aluminum and iron deposits, which are more tacky and form interlocking networks with other precipitates. Operation at high water velocities is not always a viable solution to clay and silt deposition because of design limitations, economic considerations, and the potential for erosion corrosion. [Pg.271]

The frame plates are typically epoxy-painted carbon-steel material and can be designed per most pressure vessel codes. Design limitations are in the Table 11-18. The channel plates are always an alloy material with 304SS as a minimum (see Table 11-18 for other materi s). [Pg.1082]

In many instances use of nonmetallic materials will prove to be attractive from an economic and performance standpoint. These should be considered when their strength, temperature, and design limitations are satisfactoiy. [Pg.2423]

On the other hand, consider the case of a secondary back-up (external to the system) for a component/characteristic of severity S = 1. If the designer assumes the back-up is designed for Cp = 1.33, then the analysis would reduce that for the internal back-up S = 9 case above. The acceptable design limits on Figure 2.21... [Pg.69]

Some designers limit the speed of the cheaper small steam turbines to 3,600 rpm. [Pg.127]

Thermal fatigue characteristically results from temperature cycles in service. Even if an alloy is con ectly selected and operated within normal design limits for creep strength and hot-gas corrosion resistance, it can fail from thermal fatigue. [Pg.267]

Operation includes nonual start-up, normal and emergency shutdown, and most activities performed by die production team. Whilst inlierently safe plant design limits inventories of hazardous substances, inherently safe operation ensures die number of individuals at risk are minimized. Access to die plant for non-essendal operational people such as maintenance engineers, post staff, administrators, quality control samplers, warehouse staff delivering raw material or plant items or collecting finished product, members of security, visitors etc., must be controlled. [Pg.413]
