Expert systems technology can be useful. We have demonstrated the ease of use and logic-documentation capabilities of a prototype using the UN flow chart and the KDS expert system development software. KDS Corp personnel have also demonstrated the relative ease with which our Loss Prevention Data Sheets can be represented in expert systems format. They will be happy to explain their demo "PEROX" based on our D.S. 7-81 (48). At present, however, the "PEROX" demo has been neither funded nor endorsed by the FM System. 

In order to install and run the OPUS version 4.0 demo you will need a Pentium III nbsp class PC with the Microsoft WINDOWS NT 4.0, WINDOWS 2000 or WINDOWS XP platforms, but note that neither WINDOWS 95 nor WINDOWS 98 are suitable. It is recommended to use an 800 MHz (or higher) processor with at least 128 MB RAM base memory (256 MB recommended) and a hard disk. The demo version of the software and the spectra database are both stored on the CD-ROM enclosed. A corresponding CD-ROM drive is therefore required. Prior to starting the installation proeedure you should ensure that the operating system WINDOWS NT 4.0 with the Service Pack 6 or WINDOWS 2000 or WINDOWS XP is already installed on your computer. The minimum technical requirements for your OPUS workstation are summarized in Tab. 2.1. 

As Hybrex requires a certain operation system (Windows NT) and Microsoft s Office suite, it is difficult to supply a potential customer with a demo version running on any client. Also the material database used by Hybrex is not intended to be supplied to anyone, because it holds a lot of Siemens know how and research data of the last two decades flow curves, material values etc., valuable and strictly confidential data, Siemens would not want to give outside. Solutions like dongles for the software cause logistic problems. Encryption of the material database solved this issue, but perhaps are not safe for all time. 

This is a commercial visualisation software developed by Crystal Impact for Windows systems (free demo available) [4J.
