Direct defenses

The provision of comprehensive public health services is critical to the nation s health and well-being, and to homeland security and defense. Directing mass immunization programs, assessing the immunization needs of school-aged children, identifying infectious disease threats and delivering treatment are public health... [Pg.589]

DOD, U.S. Department of Defense Directive 3200.15 SUBJECT Sustainment of Ranges and Operating Areas (OPAREAs), USD(P R), January 10, 2003. [Pg.272]

Creasy Since about October 1956, about a year and a half ago. The national policy has been implemented by a Department of Defense directive. . . (discussion off the record).27... [Pg.99]

Department of Defense Directive 3000.05 (2005) Military Support for Stability, Security, Transition and Reconstmction (SSTR) Operations. Issued on 28 November. [Pg.16]

When the National Command Authority (the President and Secretary of Defense) directed the military to conduct Operation Provide Comfort, the US. Commander in Chief Europe (USCINCEUR) directed the creation of Combined Task Force (CTF) Provide Comfort. [Pg.105]

This manual, as changed by MIL-STD-961 and MIL-STD-962, was developed by and is maintained in cooperation with the Departments of the Army, Navy, and Air Force and the Defense Supply Agency in accordance with Department of Defense Directive 4120.3. It is mandatory for use by all defense activities. It sets forth the scope, purpose, and basic objectives of the Defense Standardization Program and provides a statement of the principles under which this program is to be carried out. The manual includes detailed instructions for preparation of standardizing documents —including specifications, standards, and handbooks—both Federal and Military. [Pg.379]

Molecular modeling has evolved as a synthesis of techniques from a number of disciplines—organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, physical chemistry, chemical physics, computer science, mathematics, and statistics. With the development of quantum mechanics (1,2) ia the early 1900s, the laws of physics necessary to relate molecular electronic stmcture to observable properties were defined. In a confluence of related developments, engineering and the national defense both played roles ia the development of computing machinery itself ia the United States (3). This evolution had a direct impact on computing ia chemistry, as the newly developed devices could be appHed to problems ia chemistry, permitting solutions to problems previously considered intractable. [Pg.157]

I. G. Bowen, E. R. Fletcher, and D. R. Richmond, Estimate of Man s Tolerance to the Direct Effects of Air Blast, DASA-2113, Defense Atomic Support Agency, Washington, D.C., 1968. [Pg.26]

The resulting discoveries may provide a broad range of solutions or products. For example, invention may result from basic research and development efforts directed toward products which ate essential to basic commercial efforts. Alternatively, invention may result in products or appHcations which add value to basic commercial products that ate already in existence. Inventions may also be used to assist an individual or company in commercial efforts toward developing a defensive posture in any given marketplace. When patented, appHcations may also provide an extended opportunity to Hcense or market the patent without the actual production of a product by the inventor. [Pg.26]

The parent TMM precursor (1), now commercially available, has played a pivotal role in the execution of many synthetic plans directed at natural and unnatural targets. Reaction of (1) with 2-(methoxycarbonyl)cyclohexenone (14, R=C02Me) in the presence of palladium acetate and triethyl phosphite produced the adduct (15) in near quantitative yield. This cycloadduct is a critical intermediate in the total synthesis of a hydroxykempenone (16), a component of the defensive substances secreted by termites (Scheme 2.5) [12]. In accord with a previous observation by Trost that unactivated 2-cyclohexenone reacts poorly with TMM-Pd [13], the substrate (14, R=Me) was essentially inert in the cycloaddition. [Pg.61]

Interferon (IFN) differs from bona fide antiviral diugs since it is a natural defense protein of the host organism and does not directly interfere with the viral replication steps. Interferons are small glycoproteins inducing immune modulatory and antiviral activities. They are secreted by lymphocytes, leukocytes and fibroblasts in response to foreign nucleic acids (dsRNA). [Pg.197]
