Skimming tanks have already been described as the simplest form of de-oiling facility such tanks can reduce oil concentrations down to less than 200 ppm but are not suitable for offshore operations. 

De-oiling, typically using a blend of chemical materials such as caustic and alkaline phosphates together with nonfoaming surfactants the phosphates employed are generally either trisodium phosphate (TSP) or tetrapotassium pyrophosphate (TKPP)...

Solvent dewaxing removes wax from lubricating oil stocks, promoting crystallization of the wax. The separated water containing up to 1000 ppmw oil required de-oiling by gas flotation to achieve a disposal quality of 25 ppmw oil in water (F1g. 3). The use of flocculant during gas flotation reduced the time required to achieve 25 ppmw from 2-3 minutes to 1 minute. 

Larger individually designed plants, used for hops, decaffeination of tea, and de-fatting or de-oiling are in a volume range between 1 and 5 m3 giving a throughput capacity between 1500 and 5000 tons/annum and operated at pressures up to 450 bar.
