Four tetramers of hydrogen cyanide have been isolated the well-known diaminomaleonitrile (DAMN), diaminofumaronitrile, 4-amino-5-cyano-imidazole, and an HCN adduct of s-triazine.

When all is said and done, the chemist may just wish to leave the damn cis isomer in with the trans. It s not really going to hurt anything and if it goes unreacted in some of the conversion steps it will be lost in the process long before X is made. A much more forgiving yet limited extraction method can be used to isolate phenol species such as eugenol and chavicol. You see farther back in this chapter where one can use dilute NaOH to remove eugenol from sassafras oil Well, why not use it to isolate the damn things for further research. It works like a charm ... 

Dear readers please take notice Not once has the flask left the stirplate since the formamide and P2P reaction started up to the last point where MDA freebase was liberated. That s pretty damn convenient. Technically, the Leuckart reaction can continue as a one pot synthesis from the last part of P2P cleanup right up to final product.

Octakis(dimethylamino)porphyrazines are extremely electron-rich systems and have been used to prepare charge-transfer complexes with Cgo, as well as to peripherally chelate metals or convert to crown appended systems (38, 39). The unsymmetrical dimethylaminoporphyrazine analogues have also been reported (29), as well as the first example of the desymmetrized seco-pz from the dimethylaminoporphyrazine (8, 40). The nitrogen substituted porphyrazines are discussed in Section V. 

Aminoporphyrazines can be prepared by cyclization of tetralkylated diami-nomaleonitrile derivatives, either by themselves or in cocyclizations, using Lin-stead s magnesium propoxide method (7). Although DAMN 98 is commercially available, tetraalkylation is necessary because the unprotected amines do not withstand cyclization. The electron-rich amino pzs function as electron donors, bind metal ions, and undergo a variety of other interesting chemical reactions.
