Cyclohexanedimethanol CHDM

Other minor raw materials are used for specific needs. Eumaric acid [110-17-8] the geometric isomer of maleic acid, is selected to maximize thermal or corrosion performance and is the sole acid esterified with bisphenol A diol derivatives to obtain optimum polymer performance. CycloaUphatics such as hydrogenated bisphenol A (HBPA) and cyclohexanedimethanol (CHDM) are used in selective formulations for electrical apphcations. TetrahydrophthaUc anhydride [85-43-8] (THPA) can be used to improve resiUence and impart useful air-drying properties to polyester resins intended for coating or lining apphcations. [Pg.313]

The flexibiHty of the final film is partiy controUed by the ratio of aromatic to aHphatic dibasic acids. The esters of highly substituted polyols such as neopentyl glycol (NPG) (2,2-dimethyl-l,3-propanediol) [126-30-7] 1,4-dimethylolcyclohexane (cyclohexanedimethanol (CHDM)) [27193-23-3] ... [Pg.336]

The process is also being increasingly modified by copolymerising with isophthalic acid (IPA) or cyclohexanedimethanol (CHDM) to improve clarity, toughness and harrier properties, properties of particular importance in bottle and film applications (see Section 25.5). [Pg.718]

In contrast, the melting temperature of P(HN-co-CN) copolymer increases continuously with increasing CN content without showing a eutectic melting temperature. This indicates that P(HN-co-CN) copolymer shows isomorphic co-crystallization. " Crystallization modifiers like isophthalie aeid (IPA) and 1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol (CHDM) are often copolymerized into PET and PEN polyesters to form eopolyesters that have better processing properties. We will classify terephthalate and naphthalate polyesters as poly(arylate)s. [Pg.359]

BPA is a known endocrine disrupting chemical (EDC), but this effect is sUght and has been known since the 1930s. This fear of EDC activity led to a total ban of BPA in polycarbonate plastic bottles intended for babies. The chemical industry was not really shaken by this ban as this use was only a tiny fiaction of the market. On the other hand, finding substances that rival the favorable properties BPA is not easy, and more significantly, not cheap. Isosorbide, which can be produced by artificial sweetener sorbitol, is a possible replaeement. A promising alternative of polycarbonate plastics is named Tritan co-polyester, and is made from dimethyl terephthalate, 1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol (CHDM), and 2,2,4,4-tetramethyl-l,3-cyclobutanediol (CBDO). However, replacing BPA in all current apphcatiorrs would be difficult, very expensive, and—most importantly—unlikely to save anyone from any harm. [Pg.296]

Most plastic soda bottles are made from polyethylene terephthalate (PET) (Example 4D, Chapter II). One manufacturer is pushing a copolymer in which some of the ethylene ycol is replaced by cyclohexanedimethanol (CHDM) for that application. What advantage(s) do you think it might have ... [Pg.116]
