Cyclic strength

An original and simple method of express estimate of the protective ability of inhibited coatings is described in [83]. The cyclic strength of steel wire samples coated by inhibited polyethylene is estimated upon exposition for two to 12 days in a hostile medium (0.2 n aqua solution of sulfuric acid). The index of cyclic strength is taken as the number of bends in opposite directions through 90 degrees preceding failure of the sample. [Pg.72]

The cyclic strength of unprotected samples drops abruptly in the harsh medium (curve 1). The number of loading cycles preceding failure of the samples with PE coatings (curve 2) reduces by not more than 35%. The samples with inhibited coatings turned out to be even less well protected (curves 3-5). They are characterized by three sections on curve N t). [Pg.240]

Corrosion of most common engineering materials at near-ambient temperatures occurs in aqueous (water-containing) environments and is electrochemical in nature. The aqueous environment is also referred to as the electrolyte, and, in the case of underground corrosion, it is moist soil. Corrosion is a common form of structure degradation that reduces both the static and cyclic strength of a pipeline. There is always the chance that pipelines could leak or rupture, and a pipeline failure can cause serious human, environmental, and financial losses [3-5]. [Pg.376]
