Ultraviolet-curing

Ultraviolet Electron Beam Curing Formulations for Printing Ink, Coating and Paints, 3 Vols., SiTA Technology, London, 1991. [Pg.254]

Binders and Resins. The choice of binder is the most important ingredient choice in the formulation process because the binder affects the performance properties of a paint more than any other single ingredient (3). The physical properties of binders required for paints include the abiHty to dry or cure under various ambient conditions, good adhesion to various substrates, abrasion resistance, washabiHty, flexibiHty, water resistance, and ultraviolet light resistance. The balance of these required properties is mosdy dependent on whether the paint is being developed for interior or exterior appHcations. [Pg.540]

Reiaforced plastics may also iaclude fillers (qv), which are iaexpeasive materials such as calcium carboaate used to displace resia and reduce cost curing agents (catalysts), promoters, inhibitors, and accelerators, which affect thermosetting resia cure colorants release agents (qv) to faciUtate removal from the mold and other additives which can impart a wide variety of properties to the finished part, such as fire resistance, electrical conductivity, static dissipation, and ultraviolet resistance. [Pg.94]

Composite resins can be cured using a variety of methods. Intraoral curing can be done by chemical means, where amine—peroxide initiators are blended in the material to start the free-radical reaction. Visible light in the blue (470—490 nm) spectmm is used to intraoraHy cure systems containing amine—quin one initiators (247). Ultraviolet systems were used in some early materials but are no longer available (248). Laboratory curing of indirect restorations can be done by the above methods as well as the additional appHcation of heat and pressure (249,250). [Pg.493]

Besides resin and reactive diluent, additives are commonly incorporated into polyester resins. These include not only curing agents and fillers (see Section 25.2.3) but also ultraviolet stabilisers. The latter are particularly important for outdoor applications such as roof lighting, benzotriazoles being particularly effective. [Pg.701]

Such sol-gel derived and ultraviolet (UV)-curable hybrids afford enhanced corrosion and mechanical protection of fibres compared to standard polymer coatings used by the fibre optics industry. These coatings are hard, transparent and impossible to strip since they become intimately bonded to the fibre surface during curing. [Pg.162]

At present, systems cured by ultraviolet light or electron beams [12-14] are used primarily in wood coatings, which contain very little or no pigment they are employed to a lesser extent in paper coating and other applications. In contrast to the printing field, the comparatively thick layers in which paint systems... [Pg.155]
