The plants that exude diterpenoid resins belong to the order of conifers. Pine resins (from the Firms genus), Strasburg turpentine (from the Abies genus), Venice turpentine (from Larix decidua) were extracted from Pinaceae. Sandarac, juniper and cypress resins were extracted from trees of the Cupressaceae family Tetraclinis articulata, Juniperus spp. and Cupressus semprevirens, respectively. Moreover, labdanum resin from the Cistaceae family (Cistus spp.) also belongs to the diterpenoid resins. [Pg.14]

Cypress oil is produced by steam distillation of terminal branches of Cupressus sempervirens L. (Cupressaceae). It is a liquid with a wood-like odor that has an ambergris note. [Pg.193]

Studying the content in communic acids of the arcestides of different Juniperus and Cupressus sempervirens (Mediterranean cypress), we found the presence of only rrans-communic acid (180) in the arcestides of cypress. Furthermore, this acid could easily be isolated from the acid fraction on the hexane extract by crystallization of its sodium salt. Starting with rrans-communic acid, two diffrent strategies were developed, the first one using diene 186 as the key intermediate, which is summarized in Scheme 19. [Pg.505]
