Spanish National Collection of Type Cultures (CECT). [Pg.245]

The bacterial strains were submitted to the National Collection of Microorganism Cultures of the Pasteur Institute (CNCM) and included R. erythropolis CNCM 1-2204, -2205, -2207, and -2208, and/or R. rhodnii 1-2206. The activity of the microorganisms includes a selective attack on the carbon-sulfur bonds in the organic molecules without significant alteration of the carbon atom structure. As usual, strains were isolated and subjected to successive enrichment phases, in media containing various sources of carbon and DBT as the only sulfur source, then a purification of the enhanced culture led to the fifteen DBT specific strains. From those strains, a subset of ten strains was selected... [Pg.330]

Bacteria (see Note 2) the majority of the published studies have used the serotype 2 S. pneumoniae (NCTC 7466) that can be obtained from the National Collection of Type Cultures, London, United Kingdom. Other strains suitable for the mouse model are the serotype 3 S. pneumoniae (ATCC 6303) and serotype 1 S. pneumoniae (ATCC 6301), both can be obtained from the American Type Culture Collection. [Pg.406]

Green discontinued research upon the birth of her two children in 1947 and 1949. She started work again, part-time, in 1951 with S. T. Cowan at the National Collection of Type Cultures of Bacteria at the Central Public Health Laboratory, Colindale, London, where they developed a series of methods for the identification of bacteria based on enzyme reactions. In 1953, she was appointed Assistant Lecturer in the Department... [Pg.516]

National Collection of Yeast Cultures Maintained by the Brewing Ind. Res. Found, Nutfield. Surrey, U.K. NCYC... [Pg.363]

Each new batch of media ingredients should be subject to quality control before agar or broth preparation. It is especially important to show that new batches of pig and horse serum can support the growth of a representative sample of species found infecting cell cultures, e.g. any two of M. orale, M. hominis, M. fermentans, M. arginini, M, hyorhinis or A laidlawii. The National Collection of Type Cultures (Colindale, London, UK) or the American Type Culture Collection (Manassas, Virginia, USA) may supply type strains, or wild-type strains may be used. Stock positive control cultures may be kept frozen at -70°C in mycoplasma broth. [Pg.37]

The following abbreviations are used ATP, ADP, and AMP for adenosine 5 -tri-, 5 -pyro-, and 5 -mono-phosphate UDP for uridine 5 -pyrophosphate NAD or NADH for nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide or its reduced form NADP or NADPH for nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate or its reduced form NCYC for National Collection of Yeast Cultures and CBS for Centraalbureau voor Schimmelcultures. [Pg.125]

Each species is made up of one or more strains. For example, by November, 1972, only one strain of Brettanomyces abstinens had been reported. By contrast, very many strains are known of the baking and brewing species, Saccharomyces cerevisiae the 1970 edition of the catalogue of the National Collection of Yeast Cultures (NCYC)86 lists 357 strains of this species. A strain is a culture and its subcultures, derived from a single isolated cell (cf, Refs. 87 and 88). [Pg.136]

Erwinia herbicola NCIMB 12126 was obtained from the National Collection of Industrial and Marine Bacteria (Aberdeen, UK), HEPES buffer sachets and magnesium acetate were obtained from Sigma (Poole, UK), adenylate kinase assay kits were obtained from Acolyte Biomedica (Salisbury, UK), sterile tissue culture grade distilled water was obtained from Gibco (Paisley, UK), L-broth and tryptone soya agar plates were obtained from Oxoid (Basingstoke, UK). [Pg.224]

The yeast strains used were D. hansenii CCMI941, B stipitis CBS 5773, and K. marxianus CBS 6556, obtained from the National Collection of Yeasts Cultures (UK), as NCYC 2597. The strains were maintained on YM agar slants containing 20 g 1 glucose, 3 g 1 yeast extract, 3 g l malt extract, 5 g 1 peptone, and 20 g F agar. [Pg.628]

Seed stocks of the AG group of biological agents are readily available in the natural environment and from culture collections in the industrialized and in some developing nations. The recent outbreaks of Ebola in Africa and Hanta virus infections in Asia and North and South America are evidence of this. In addition, these organisms may be obtained from national collections (e.g., American Type Culture Collection fATCCJ and European collections). [Pg.9]
