Rosa Llusar was born on September 20th, 1960 in Almenara (Spain). She studied chemistry at the University of Valencia (Spain) where she graduated in 1983 with the highest honors. Her doctorate work was devoted to the chemistry of cubane-type molybdenum and tungsten sulfides and she received Ph.D. degrees from Valencia University in 1987 and from Texas A M University (USA) in 1988, under the guidance of Prof. F. Amino acid is one of the most important biological ligands. Researches on the coordination of metal-amino acid complexes will help us better understand the complicated behavior of the active site in a metal enzyme. Up to now many Ln-amino acid complexes [50] and 1 1 or 1 2 transition metal-amino acid complexes [51] with the structural motifs of mononuclear entity or chain have been synthesized. Recently, a series of polynuclear lanthanide clusters with amino acid as a ligand were reported (most of them display a Ln404-cubane structural motif) [52]. It is also well known that amino acids are useful ligands for the construction of polynuclear copper clusters [53-56], Several studies on polynuclear transition metal clusters with amino acids as ligands, such as [C03] [57,58], [Co2Pt2] [59], [Zn6] [60], and [Fe ] [61] were also reported. [Pg.173]

Nitrocubanes are probably the most powerful explosives with a predicted detonation velocity of >10,000 ms-1. Cubanes were first synthesised at the University of Chicago, USA by Eaton and Cole in 1964. The US Army Armament Research Development Centre (ARDEC) then funded development into the formation of octanitrocubane [(ONC) (C8N8016)] and heptanitrocubane [(HpNC) (C8N7014)]. ONC and HpNC were successfully synthesised in 1997 and 2000 respectively by Eaton and co-workers. The basic structure of ONC is a cubane molecule where all the hydrogens have been replaced by nitro groups (1.6). HpNC is denser than ONC and predicted to be a more powerful, shock-insensitive explosive. [Pg.15]

Out of the debate over the use of technology in education has risen the idea that technology is not an end unto itself (Cuban 2001) but a means to reach other ends more efficiently. Simmons who, when heading central research also at DuPont, turned down the offer of a professorship at Harvard (Bohning 1993, Roberts Collette 1999) and so on. [Pg.333]

The atmospheric research stations on materials from different kinds, may be use to evaluate the behavior of previously conceive and elaborated materials when they are under the aetion of the aggressive agents from the Cuban climate.
