The one-way effect is mainly utilized for fastening and clamping devices. Among the commercially most successful products are coupling sleeves made of shape memory alloy with the one-way effect, which guarantees very reliable connections of hydraulic pipes in airplanes. 

The synchronizing mechanism takes no part whatever in the power transmission. It is simple, compact and designed inside the coupling sleeve, suitable for high speed operation. 

While with-in the mobile x-ray system, the waste in the sampler, is contained within a replaceable (and disposable) polyvinyl chloride (PVC) sleeve with a wall thickness of approximately 0.2-inches and a sealed bottom. It was anticipated that the PVC tube or sleeve would, with use, become highly contaminated with waste residues which drip of fall-off the sampler. The sleeve is coated with a conductive coating to prevent static electricity buildup . There are no sources of ignition in this sealed spare. The sampler (and waste) is coupling which includes a positive pressure gasket. This barrier is further isolated by a second barrier consisting of an epoxy coated aluminum sleeve also sealed-off from the main x-ray cabinet and PVC sleeve. There are also no potential sources of ignition in this isolated secondary space as well.

The second type of coupling, shown in Figure 18-3, has the male teeth integral with the spool. In this coupling type the same amount of heat is produced, but the hollow-bored spool will accept heat in a manner similar to the sleeve so that no differential growth occurs. 

Very little can be done to prevent the coupling from retaining the impurities. The g forces in a coupling are very high, and the oil dam built in the sleeve configuration prevents the impurities from going over it. 

Some manufacturers now offer couplings without a dam, or with sleeves provided with radial holes. Experience has shown that such couplings accumulate no sludge. The dam has, however, two useful purposes ... 

In service of hydrocarbons or other combustible liquids or gases the skirts shall be provided with minimum of two 2 inch vent holes located as high as possible 180 degrees apart. The vent holes shall clear head insulation. For sleeve may be used coupling or pipe.

Rigid couplings The mechanical components of rigid couplings (e.g., hubs, bolts, compression sleeves and halves, keyways, and keys) should be visually inspected for cracks, breaks, physical damage, wear, and/or fatigue. Any component having any of these conditions should be replaced. 

A junction in a transfer tube is useful when two parts of the tube are fixed to the respective dewars. An example of a transfer tube is shown in Fig. 5.8. Figure 5.9 shows a sleeve coupling. Examples of transfer lines are in ref. [27,28],... 

If a sleeve bearing motor (without a thrust bearing) is direcdy connected to the pump shaft with a coupling, the coupling transmitted thrust will be assumed to be the maximum motor thrust. 

Limited end float conplings with maximum coupling end floats as specified in Table 3-2 shall be supplied with horizontal sleeve bearing motors to prevent the motor rotor from nibbing stationary motor parts. 

On vertical pumps equipped with mechanical seals, the coupling shall be a spacer type. The spacer shall be of snfficient length to permit replacement of the seal assembly, inclnding the sleeve, without removal of the driver.

The inhibition of composite propellants is somewhat easier than that of DB propellants. The binders used for composite propellants (with or without fillers) have been reported for inhibition of composite propellants. Such inhibition systems possess stronger bonds with composite propellants and prove to be more compatible coupled with better shelf-life of the inhibited propellants. However, epoxy or novolac epoxy resin with or without inert fillers is generally preferred for the inhibition of composite propellants due to a combination of properties possessed by them. The inhibition is usually done by casting technique and inhibition thickness is usually required on higher side in order to make the missions successful. In India, thread winding technique or inhibitor sleeve technique is preferred where 2.5-3.0mm inhibition thickness is sufficient as against 3.5-4.0 mm in case of inhibition by casting technique . 

Before fitting spacing sleeve EA3 and outer ball bearing fill the nave of the coupling pulley to about one third with ball bearing grease.
