The spiro piperidine (77) is a constituent of the seeds of the leguminous plants Lonchocarpus sericeus and L. costaricensis (L.E. Fellows et al., Chem.Comm., 1979, 977), and the simple phenacylpiperidine (78) is an antifungal agent from the plant Boehermia cyclindrica (W. Dopke et al., Z.Chem., 1981, 21, 358). Other piperidines include dumetorine (79), which is obtained from the yam Pioscorea dumetorum (D.G. Corley, M.S. Tempesta and M.M. Iwu, Tetrahedron Letters, 1985, 26, 1615), and the simple glucoside (80) an extractive of Xanthocercis zambesiaea (S.V. Evans et al., ibid., p 1465). [Pg.190]

It is a newly discovered intestinal helminth infection of man found in Latin America. The causative agents of the disease, Angiostrongylus costaricensis and A. can-tonensis, produce tumor-like lesions in the colon. Chemotherapy is usually not very satisfactory. Sometimes surgical intervention may be required. [Pg.7]

Tetrahydrolathyrine has been isolated from the seeds of Lonchocarpus costaricensis. The configuration of the a-car-bon atom was established by the large positive molar elliptic-ity in acid solution (Fellows et al., 1979). [Pg.226]

A series of piperidine alkaloids with hydroxyl substitutions have been isolated from a number of higher plants (54-56) (Fig. 29.19) (Herbert, 1986, 1988). Among these plant species are Lonchocarpus sericeus, L. costaricensis and Derris elliptica (Fabaceae), Moms species (Moraceae), Fagopyrum esculentum (Polygonaceae), and a fern of the... [Pg.543]
