Addresses methods of determining the remaining strength of corroded pipelines that are within the scope of the ASME B31 Code for Pressure Piping. 

Rehabilitation of internally corroded pipelines is somewhat more difficult to manage than external corrosion. Internally corroded pipes require cutting out and replacing the affected sections of the pipeline. Other methods of internal rehabilitation consist of pulled liners and epoxy flood coating. Cost estimates for these options can vary greatly and predominantly dependent on the extent of cleaning required to prepare the internal surface for coating. 

Replacement of damaged units which cannot be repaired—damaged valves, instruments, demisters, corroded pipelines, and ducts.

This chapter will first outline the conventional offshore riser repair techniques and their limitations which, in turn, provide the motivation for adoption of composite repair. A brief discussion about the application of FRPC in pipeline repair, its limitations, current practices, and material types will be given. A subsequent section provides information on the industrial design and safety standards used in designing and assessing the performance of offshore risers, corroded pipelines, and pipelines repaired with FRPC. The typical loading conditions of an offshore riser are also discussed so that the requirements of CRS can be understood.
