Correction rule

An automatic control system is often introduced because it appears to do a job better than the human. However, the human is still asked to monitor its effectiveness. It is difficult to see how the worker can be expected to check in real time that the automatic control system is, for example, using the correct rules when making decisions. It is well known that humans are very poor at passive monitoring tasks where they are required to detect and respond to infrequent signals. These situations, called vigilance tasks, have been studied extensively by applied psychologists (see Warm, 1984). On the basis of this research, it is unlikely that people will be effective in the role of purely monitoring an automated system. 

Regression analyses revealed systematic differences between experimental log P and log P calculations based on the summation of fragment values. These differences could be attributed to chemical characteristics of the molecules, which in turn allowed the definition of correction rules such as chain conjugation, electronegativity facing bulk or the proximity effect, which describes the presence of electronegative centers in a molecule separated by one or two carbons. Correction values needed for log P calculation were shown to represent multiples of a constant value of 0.289, which is known as the magic constant (CM). 

The actual 2/ system [34] lists 13 correction rules and 169 fragment values, including 14 new heterocyclic fragments as well as doubly and triply halogenated methyls. Atom-based methods [40, 57-68] cut molecules down to single atoms and commonly do not apply correction rules. According to Eq. (9) they work by summing the products of the contribution of an atom type i times the frequency of its presence in a query molecule ... 

XLOGP [67, 68] is a further atom-additive method, as expressed by its almost exclusive use of atomic contributions. However, in contrast to pure atom-based methods correction rules are defined, to account for intramolecular interactions, which is typical for fragmental methods. 

When algebraic equations or inequalities are used to find the answer to a question or problem, you write the equation or inequality carefully, you solve the algebraic equation or inequality using all the correct rules, and then you check to be sure that the solution from the algebra really answers the question that s been posed.

The first function of a norm is to act as an arbitrator and ensure that uniform, unbiased and scientifically correct rules are used.
